jnathansonMemberI just took my first CPA exam and failed. I did everything Becker says to do – was scoring high 80’s on the MCQ. Now need to take it again. What do people recommend I do for the next month? Is Becker Final Review worth it or is something else more beneficial?

AnonymousInactiveFor each of my exams, I had to get to the point where I not only knew the right answer to a MC question, but WHY it was the right answer. Consistently understanding the logic.
I found that I could bang out 400 questions in one sitting after awhile, but that didn't mean I really understood everything fully. I just got really good at the questions.

taxman89Participantthats the other thing. i didnt do 1000 m/cs in one sitting. i would do 20-30 and then i would go over each question in detail, looking at why it was right/wrong. then i would do 20/30 more etc etc. This way its less intimidating than 200 at one time, and it helps you learn the material without blowing through all the m/c Qs (so you still have Qs left at the end to do a quiz over unseen Qs)
Aud-75 3x I knew i never liked you
Bec-77 1x being in the bubble is stressful
Reg-82 4x its not me its you...and no we cant be friends
Far-78 1x easiest sectionMarch 10, 2014 at 3:30 pm #556491

KimboroniMemberI think adding WTB is a great idea, since question memorization is likely an issue.
Also, put the highlighter down– try adopting the NINJA method. Actually taking notes is much more active than highlighting and underlining, so you learn better.
And if you want some fresh materials, might as well get the Ninja 10 Pt Combo, which comes with WTB. It's a good deal and a great supplement to other study materials. Jeff has a great way of boiling it down to key points.
AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)Disclaimer: My ninja avatar is not meant to imply that I have any affiliation with this site other than being a forum member. That's a pic of a T-shirt that my daughter gave me for my birthday. 🙂

ziebaParticipantI'm just getting into my audit retake.. damn this material makes so much more sense now that I've learned/passed FAR! the gaps just fill themselves…errors, vs changes in principle, except for's and the wording about inventory valuations, etc…
AUD was my first exam, and I know I did not study as hard as I did for FAR and REG…and somehow I posted a seventy five. I'm hoping this time around with Ninja audio and WTB…and hammering it twice as hard I won't have any surprises on test day.
Yours isn't the first cautionary tale of “what went wrong?” re: audit test day vs prep.
AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
BEC - 74 , 77
REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
FAR - 69 , 75Dr: perseverance
