Failed Aud, Retaking in July. Best Study Method?

Hi Everyone. I’ve noticed quite a few “I’ve failed audit” posts and it seems a lot of us were very close. I scored a 73, and it was very painful to see this. It sucks to have to retake this POS exam, but such is life.

I would like to gather some input on what the best way to study for this retake is, assuming I’ll be taking the exam around July 5th/6th. Unfortunately, I cannot take it July 1st because its work day 1 at my job which means we have to be there to close the books.

I have seen people mention that you should start completely over because fighting for 2 additional points, might as well be a fight for 75 more points. I am using becker self study and have the ninja notes. Should I watch all the videos again, do all the MC, etc? Is anyone else doing this? I’d like to not be the only one and also I dont know if I can make this happen in 4 weeks. Please let me know what you are planning on doing.

I failed my exam initially with a 69 and just re-took it at the end of May and got the score of 83. I don't know if you are already doing something similar but this is what I did.

I used Wiley Testbank, Wiley books, and Yaeger lecture. While Yaeger lectures are good, I feel they are a bit lacking in the AUD section. So what I did was I read the Wiley book page to page (except pronouncements), memorized standard audit, review, compilation reports and that really helped me understand a lot of more about the topic in general. After that I just re-did the questions from testbank and noticed that I was scoring much higher than my first time taking it. Then I re-visit the questions I missed one more time. Since this was my second time studying the topic, it went by much faster but still took me roughly 3 wks to get through the material and absorb them, with real life events going on.

Hopefully this will help you but 73 is actually really close to passing! Most likely you just need to focus on your weak areas and revisit your strong area to refresh your memory. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply, I guess it comes down to whether or not I need to watch the videos for Becker. I would definitely skip this if the test was't changing, but since we have the new SAS stuff, I don't know what to do. I feel like the videos can be a waste of time at some points. But sometimes the notes they have us take in the book helps me memorize the material… Ugh. FML

hey AZ! i'm in the same boat – i just got my results yesterday with a 68 x_x. people in the forums seem to be recommending the ninja notes (which you're already doing) and the wiley test bank. i'll probably use both of those to supplement the becker self study.

good luck! i think we'll have enough time before the beginning of july!

So I just sat down and compared my Becker A to Becker B books, there seem to be enough changes that I I feel like I should watch the videos… but I certainly don't want to waste time doing this when I know I should be doing MC non stop and putting the highlighter down…

Read the chapters, don't watch the lectures. Becker's website should have pdf's available to you for Clarified SAS updates. Most importantly, do MCQ's until you're sick of them – but do it wisely. Go through all the questions once and bookmark the questions you get wrong, on the second pass only doing bookmarked questions. The questions you got wrong the second time through, write down why you missed them and understand why the other answers were wrong.

My biggest downfall for audit was that I did not take the time to fully read the questions, so take your time and read them twice. If you miss the call of the question, you're going to get the questions wrong. Simple as that.

73's sting… I know the feeling. Good luck.

    B - Passed
    A - Passed
    R - Passed
    F - Passed

I got hit with a 74 on AUD. I think so many of us were close to passing due to the mass of ppl trying to get AUD out of the way before Clarity Project hit. I think the curve (yes, I believe in the curve) worked against us (me) this time. I was scoring in the upper 80s on Wiley and CPAreviewforfree. I'm trying out ExamMatrix now and scoring in the mid-80s there as well. I feel very sure I know the material well enough to pass.

    ------------
    FAR - PASSED
    BEC - PASSED
    AUD - PASSED
    REG - 74
    <sigh>

mbbransc- I noticed close to 11,000 people took AUD this section. That is WILD!

I think the curve got me as well….the curve with AUD can be tough due to those auditors knocking out 99's. GRR!

Anyway, I bought the Ninja Notes to supplement the Ninja Audio, CPA Review For Free, and Wiley Test Bank. I was scoring in the 80's on Wiley before the exam, so I will make sure that I am scoring in the 90's this time.

Re-Match is set for July 3rd….. I am so pissed, but incredibly motivated. AUD doesn't stand a chance this time!

    REG 8/31/12 Passed: 80
    FAR 1/10/13 Passed: 82
    BEC 4/4/13 Passed: 77
    AUD 5/28/13 Failed: 71 WTF?????
    AUD 7/11/13 Passed: 81
    ETHICS Passed: 93

    DONE!!!!!

I'm in the same boat – I think that I can going to review the updated NINJA notes and just hit the multiple choice questions hard – the questions that I get wrong or that involved the Clarified Standards I am going to write and re-write and re-write. I think its good to watch the videos but not enough time.

I agree with smalltimeauditor about writing down the questions you get wrong and understanding why the correct answer is correct. I filled up two legal pads doing this. I found that the best way to answer the audit mcqs was by eliminating all the answers you know are wrong. Several times you will find you are only left with one answer. Don't re-watch the videos. Do all the mcqs until you know them cold. Good luck you can do it!

    FAR 92 (2/27/13)
    AUD 99 (4/18/13)
    REG 93 (7/5/13)
    BEC 92 (8/12/13)

I got a 73 last time and just got an 87 this past Friday. I did all the wiley mc questions (twice if possible, second time as a skim) then did as many of the wiley test bank questions as possible. I took short 20 question practice sessions focusing on one section at a time and didn't stop until I could score an 80-85 a couple times in a row under each topic, read ninja notes and my notes I took during Roger lectures to shore up weak areas. Also don't forget to use search within the index in the research section, makes searching way easier to find stuff.

Basically, multiple choice your guts out until you know it.

Lord, please give me a ready recollection of the things I have studied. Amen.
