just found out I failed AUD with a 71…really thought I had the MCQ’s down. I was less confident about my simulations, but I know that I got at least 2 of the 7 correct since they matched up with the AL at least. my breakdown mirrors this somewhat:

it seems like I blew away this test except for the SIMS…am I reading this correctly? and if so, I must have done pretty bad on the SIMS to counter all my “stronger” areas, right? what is the best way to improve on SIMS since becker taught me NOTHING about how to prepare for these SIMS?

I agree with mhueycpa–Using the AL for every single SIM, not just the research one, saved my butt for AUD SIMS.

You won't be able to take AUD before July if you already took it in the April-May testing window. You're only allowed one try at each section per testing window.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I would improve your time in the multiple choice to make sure you have about 2 hours for the simulations. I don't think there is a good way to prepare for simulations (I did Becker as well), no matter what test bank, simulations are nothing more then a bunch of multiple choice grouped together. So I almost failed my first test (because of SIMs), so now I don't flag any questions nor do I go back to any questions, I move on to the next testlets after 40 minutes regardless if I am done with the testlet, the multiple choice is not worth much so don't spend more then half your time on it. Then with 2 hours, I used the literature to double check all my answers.

I made a mistake in FAR and didn't leave much time for simulations, so I only finished about half the simulations, that scared me straight. So I have not made that mistake again, my scores keep improving the less time I spend on multiple choice.

Although I have BEC next so I am going to scrap my previous method since the simulation is not worth much. Although in FAR or REG, I don't recommend checking your answers since it would be a complete waste of time to attempt to read ASC codes and tax code. Just leave yourself as much time to make sure that you take your time and double check your work.

For audit- the literature is so easy to ready, understand, and search, so look up all your answers. Also I went to AICPA website and read all literature prior to the test– that really helped since I knew exactly where to look.

This article might help…it includes my take on what a 71 means:

thank you all. that's an interesting strategy- SIMS are indeed overly weighted considering it's only 1 of 4 testlets. I definitely flagged a lot of MCQs and spent a lot of time going back and re-reading every single answer choice I had selected. when it came to SIMS, I have slightly less than 1 hour to finish everything and I actually ran out of time on the last section (I had already populated answers though, and Prometric assured me that as long as I did so, it would count).

I definitely did not rely on AL for anything other than the research question and one SIM asking to fill in some blanks on a report. I will have to look into using AL for the other 5 SIMs…

Jeff- I came across that article earlier after finding out I failed. Thank you for sharing.
