Why is a purchase order less reliable than a cancelled check?

To me, they are both internally made documents that aren’t as reliable.

I think because you can verify canceled checks via a bank…right?

    AUD- 97 1x
    REG- 81 1x
    BEC- 79 1x
    FAR- 88 1x

    DONE!

Yup! The cancelled check has left the audit clients control where the PO hasn't, so it is more reliable evidence.

And possibly because a third party has, by accepting it (whether depositing it or cashing it), contractually agreed to its amount. Could that be it? Whereas a Purchase Order is an internal document, more easily susceptible to tampering? IMO

At first I thought, canceled checks were like voided checks that never got cleared nor negotiated. Then I learned later, canceled checks actually mean have cleared the depositor's account and the bank marked them as “canceled”.

That makes canceled checks more reliable because they are verifiable with the third party just as stated by our fellows here.
