Regarding client confidentiality, does releasing a list of clients/names alone constitute a violation of client confidentiality? I couldn’t find anything in my becker textbook about this and lets just say its a fact nugget that from experience that I should know. Thanks.

In general, the answer is no, it doesn't violate confidentiality standards. However, this is predicated on the assumption that releasing the name of client wouldn't indirectly provide other confidential information.

For example, if you are a CPA who specializes in bankruptcy issues, you wouldn't be able to disclose your client list because doing so would indicate that your clients may be considering bankruptcy, and that WOULD violate confidentiality.

    FAR - 71, 94
    BEC - 91
    REG - 51, 88
    AUD - 89
