Started my journey in 2008, did not give it 100% and i blamed it on Becker…

Refocused my efforts in 2012…. used yaeger for both AUD twice and recently BEC…. not sure how I did on BEC, but hoping for the best….but as we all know, you never know how you REALLY did…

after thinking about it, I decided to go back to Becker and give it a real shot. I’ve already gotten thru most of A-1 and I am really happy with my choice. Does anyone have any suggestions on how they study with Becker? Do you guys follow the becker plan to the T?

I plan to also supplement becker with the wiley test bank and jeff’s awesome ninja notes… I know that this may be what I need to get past Audit… and after completing A-1, I already feel like Becker may just be better suited for my studying then Yaeger was….

    thoughts, advice, help!!!

I use Becker since it is supplied to me through my firm. I don't supplement with anything mainly due to the fact a lot of this stuff is still fresh in mind since I am a current student.

I don't follow the Becker model mainly due to time restrictions. I take the live lectures during the week and don't have enough energy after a long day at work mixed with some studying on my down time to do homework. I usually go to lecture, next day read the book and take notes in a notebook of things that are not obvious/quickly recalled information and formulas. When I get to it, I do the homework and for all the answers I had to guess or got wrong, I write down the reasoning behind it so I can review minor facts/details that may not be in my previous notes. I work out all simulations in my notes as well.

So basically lecture>reading/note taking>homework/note taking for each section, and then review and do progress tests as necessary. It is nice to have all the notes together in a notebook because the book is so bulky and annoying to carry around. I can review notes at any time/any where.

Everyone has their own method but it should always incorporate homework and writing of notes in some way. I previously made flashcards instead of notes but that was a bit too time consuming and left me little time to work problems. Either way, set a schedule and stay on track!

Best of luck finding what is right for you!

    Hey JTF,

I'm also using Becker (2012, self-study) and it's going well so far. I took REG back at the end of May just sticking to the Becker plan and got a 90. I'm not a tax person, either. As such, I was very pleased with my score and the results from studying with Becker. I was very well prepared.

I just got done with FAR a few weeks ago (waiting on my score but I think I may have squeaked out a 75+) and again stuck to the Becker plan and it prepared me well for the exam.

Now, like you, I'm studying for audit. I'm actually wrapping up A6 today and then I'll be doing a review for the next three weeks before I take the exam.

I haven't supplemented my study with anything thus far but several Becker students also get the Wiley or Gleim books. Personally, I think that if you stick to Becker as they suggest and watch all of the lectures, do all of their MCQ's, all of their SIMs, and set enough time aside to properly review before the test, you shouldn't need to buy anything else to supplement your studies. If you stick to the Becker plan, they back it up with the Becker promise. Becker should definitely suffice your study needs.

That being said, Jeff's Ninja notes/audio are pretty fantastic and they're way cheap compared to other prep materials. He's got the free audio blurbs and sample notes posted in the stickies if you haven't looked at them already.

Best of luck to you! You'll tame the audit beast this time around for sure!

    REG (5/31/12) - 90
    FAR (7/12/12) - 85
    AUD (8/23/12) - 91
    BEC (10/13/12) - 85

I used Becker method with Wiley tb and it has worked for me………..50/50, passed 2 on the first try , one on the second and waiting on REG's score.

You're in good hands with Becker! The only supplements you need are NINJA notes and Wiley TB.

The only thing I always preach about it how much I HATE the lectures. I just can't make myself sit through them! I see no value in someone reading to me from a book and telling me what to highlight. I skip the lectures and look at the electronic versioon of the book within the software and just make all the highlights and markings on my own… a little time consuming, but it beats having to listen to those boring dudes.

I practice MCQs al least 3 times for every topic… I start taking notes only during the last 1 to 2 weeks until exam day, all my notes are strictly based on MCQs. (This is my version of reviewing and craming.. it never fails me). A lot of people rewrite Jeff's notes but I'm lazy; I just use the Ninja notes when I'm at the gym, grocery store, driving, in the restroom, or during family reunions.

Becker for lectures and overall learning.

Then spend the hundo a shot on the Wileys Test bank.

The best advice I ever got was do multiple choice questions until you puke.

I think the Wileys multiple's are easier and more in line with what you see on the test.
