“AU-C” is just a temporary identifier used to label newly modified AUs to avoid confusion with references to existing “AU” sections. The “AU-C” identifier will revert to “AU” when the section becomes fully effective for all engagements. For tpoics modified by an AU-C, I'd go with that guidance especially if the effectively date has already passed. For unchanged topics, go with the original AU as there should not be any related AU-Cs on that topic anyway.

You can check out the AICPA exam contents document for the latest info on what is going to be included and tested in the 2013 CPA exams. But it probably won't have anything that specific. https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ExaminationContent/ContentAndSkills/DownloadableDocuments/CSOs-SSOs-Effective.Jan2013.pdf

However, if you're worried about this impacting the research simluations on the exam, I wouldn't. Just do a search on key words from the question prompt and once you find some key word or key phrase matches, chances are, that is the correct answer anyway. So AU vs. AU-C is likely a non-issue on the actualy exam.

Finally, if you really want clarification, I'd pose this question to your CPA review instructor. Whether you are attending live classes or online/DVD classes, they should have resources for you to ask.
