Audit Re-Take Advice

    Hello Everyone,

    Just got my AUD score back (73). I am aiming to take the exam again Jan. 17th and I will begin studying hardcore for it around Dec. 30th. I will study throughout the holidays, just not all out – trying to be realistic.

    I will have approximately two weeks to re-study for the exam. I am using Becker and do not plan on supplementing with any other study materials (I’m poor). That being said, can anyone recommend a good study method? This is the first exam I have failed so I am not really sure what to do, especially since I was so close. I work full time and plan to put roughly 20-25 hours in per week.

    Thanks!

    You're in exactly the same boat I was. AUD was the only exam I failed, and I did so with a 73. I jumped right back on the horse and passed it the second go round. I think the key was just hammering the MCQs for each section and taking special note of the ones I got wrong (or in my case, continued to get wrong). AUD can be so difficult because you have to remember what rules apply to what situations. When reviewing WTB, I found that I was consistently missing certain questions, so I had to really review those concepts.

    I also wrote outlines for the chapters that were giving me the most trouble as well as drawing diagrams to help me visually see the differences between audits, reviews, compilations, etc.

    Good luck.

    Hello GT,

    Thank you for your response. Can you comment on the timeline you used to study for the re-take?

    @FYB, here's my timeline:

    I took AUD the first time on August 29th after about 4 weeks of studying. I found out that I didn't pass around Sept. 9th or so. I rescheduled AUD for Oct. 4th and started studying again about Sept. 17th or so. I had already learned most of the base material, so it was really more about fine tuning my understanding of the concepts to where I knew them front and back. Going over the material the 2nd time really helped reinforce the concepts.

    I got a 74… I'm a bit frustrated because I was really hoping to pass it. The extra cost of paying for the exam again makes me sad. I got really sick for 2 weeks before the test which really messed up those critical 2 weeks of study. Trying to cheer myself up thinking next time will be the one. Definitely following this thread for tips on retaking it.

    Well, if you see my signature, you will understand I suffered the same thing as you guys!

    When I prepared for my re-take, honestly, I didn't go back to read my AUD book (I am using CPA excel). Instead, I went through slides of each chapter since those include the key points of each chapter. I also used Ninja Notes and WTB so I can solid my memory and did tons of MCQs.

    @ixuahc–I failed in November 2012 and retake in 2013. There were some changes regarding the audit reporting. So what I did was still using the 2012 materials but only purchased the updated Ninja Notes for 2013. It do helped me to understand the changes but not spend tons of money to buy whole set of 2013 materials.

    Hope it helps.
