Considering the recent spike of Audit wrath on the forum, I felt it necessary to make a thread devoted entirely to how much we all hate the auditing section of this exam! While I found a few hilarious threads about the BEC Haters Club, I found no such outlet for Audit and found that to be unacceptable. If you would rather stick your hand down the kitchen sink and hit the disposal, drink milk 8 weeks past the expiration date, or blow dry your hair in the bathtub rather than ever sit for auditing again in your life…welcome home. πŸ™‚

I loathe audit because in audit land it’s perfectly acceptable to be WRONG…ahem, excuse me…misstated. Mind you it’s acceptable for an account can be wrong/misstated, just as long as it’s not “materially misstated” aka “more wrong than a misstated balance which in reality is a wrong number to begin with”. Seriously??? Come on, man. No wonder Audit has the lowest pass rate of all the sections right now!!! In tax land there is no concept of “materiality” and that’s how I like it! Please give me the internal revenue code any day with it’s 1,000,000 rules, regulations, procedures, and guidelines to follow because I like to color in the lines. I like things to be right or wrong, period. No subjectivity in my numbers, please and thank you!!! God bless the Internal Revenue Code!!!!

Now it’s your turn! Why do you hate audit???

    In my experience….

If you walk out of audit feeling confident you will receive a 68.

If you walk out of audit feeling like you want to lay down in traffic you will receive a 92.

Your first answer is always the wrong answer!

Give me a partnership basis, corporate AMT, or a DNI computation any day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @MintsRGood

I am in tax and I completely agree. The concept of materiality annoys me. I understand why it exists and why it is necessary, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

FAR was my worst nightmare because of its volume, but audit was THE most annoying section for me. I had to struggle reading a single page. Ugh.

And I actually enjoyed studying for REG πŸ™‚

^ yea that sounds about right. Just got my 70 yesterday after feeling like I rocked Audit's world. I cannot comprehend how I did worse on it than FAR where I came out of every test feeling dazed and confused.

    FAR 73, 71, 83
    AUD 66, 70, 86
    REG 82
    BEC 76

I Hate AUD! I fail, then I study for 2 more months and feel like I was taking a completely different exam during the retake. It didn't look like anything I saw on the first test. I was pissed after that retake. I cried. I drank. Every single MCQ was a test on how to narrow down the choices, but never be able to get it to ONE choice only. I hate the wording. I hate the fact that things don't have to be correct. I hate the fact that I have worked on the other side of things for so long that I had a hard time wrapping my brain around the audit side of things. And most of all I hate how deflated I felt during and after that exam, how much I just knew I failed, how I had to rethink my entire study plan and rework my school schedule and my holiday plans to fit in the January retake. The ulcers I'm sure I gave myself over trying to figure out how to study for the test again when I felt I had done everything in my power to learn the material for the retake. The hopelessness I felt for the week that I waited for the results and then…..I passed. WTH?! How could one test be so freaking deceiving. No one will ever believe me again when I say that I did poorly on a test. AUD is a jerk for the roller coaster emotions it caused me.

@JBYYS I didn't mind studying for REG either! In fact, I found the same satisfaction in solving REG SIMS that some folks find in solving crossword puzzles! I actually prayed for SIMS on basis, DNI, and AMT!!! I know that I rocked my SIMS but B-law put the hurt on me. I truly underestimated how testable it is on REG and almost paid the price for it…those SIMS kept me passing without question.

Internal Controls drive me up the wall too…it doesn't seem very “efficient or effective” to have a freaking flowchart for every move you make!

Is there a flowchart that outlines proper procedures for making coffee and using the restroom? How about one for making copies and parking in the building lot?

Do I need to start submitting inventory counts of my paperclips, rubber bands, and binder clips?

What's my materiality threshold for adding machine tape usage?

    Eeeeeeeeekkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The more i study audit, more insane i am going.

looking at my score I worry coz the pattern is 73-72-69 :(:(:(

I know @ Mints you scored low on attempt#3 but you did well in second attempt.

Should i be worrying? I want to move on fresh. Still have not got my score report though. But strangely my 72 score report was good than 73 score report.

I hate these opaque Score report.

FAR- 79 -->Becker self study, Final review & Flashcards
REG -72-->Becker ,76-->Becker plus Wiley test bank
    AUD- 73 Becker,72-->Becker+Wiley,69-->Added ninja notes,89 --> Added Gleim review
BEC- 84 Becker plus Wiley Test bank

    I am Done !!!!

I've found my people! Audit is BY FAR the worst of these exams for me. I study, I study, I study, but I always feel like I'm walking through quicksand. It never gets easier, it never gets more interesting, it never ‘clicks'. πŸ™

I now have the other three under my belt, and I plan on giving Audit every ounce of energy that I have next month so I can be done with it (on my 5th try, ugh). But I don't have to like it. I will never like it. This is the most boring, nonsensical stuff I've ever studied.

    Good luck to us all!

    REG - PASSED
    BEC - PASSED
    AUD - PASSED
    FAR - PASSED

    DONE. πŸ™‚

As a fellow AUD hater who is sitting for a 7th (and hopefully last) attempt next month, I agree with the sentiments on this thread.

I studied my butt off and still no success πŸ™

THIS section is what is standing between me and finally being done with this part of the CPA journey!

We will finally slay this beast come January! Stay strong my fellow NINJAS!!!
