Considering the recent spike of Audit wrath on the forum, I felt it necessary to make a thread devoted entirely to how much we all hate the auditing section of this exam! While I found a few hilarious threads about the BEC Haters Club, I found no such outlet for Audit and found that to be unacceptable. If you would rather stick your hand down the kitchen sink and hit the disposal, drink milk 8 weeks past the expiration date, or blow dry your hair in the bathtub rather than ever sit for auditing again in your life…welcome home. 🙂

I loathe audit because in audit land it’s perfectly acceptable to be WRONG…ahem, excuse me…misstated. Mind you it’s acceptable for an account can be wrong/misstated, just as long as it’s not “materially misstated” aka “more wrong than a misstated balance which in reality is a wrong number to begin with”. Seriously??? Come on, man. No wonder Audit has the lowest pass rate of all the sections right now!!! In tax land there is no concept of “materiality” and that’s how I like it! Please give me the internal revenue code any day with it’s 1,000,000 rules, regulations, procedures, and guidelines to follow because I like to color in the lines. I like things to be right or wrong, period. No subjectivity in my numbers, please and thank you!!! God bless the Internal Revenue Code!!!!

Now it’s your turn! Why do you hate audit???

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂
    Licensed Michigan CPA 🙂

I guess everyone is different. Audit seemed the most manageable to me because of the lack of calculations. To me, FAR seems like a complete nightmare.

I would like to join this club but I can't say I hate AUD more than the others because I hate them ALL. I don't want to be insensitive or impartial. =p

I knew AUD would be the hardest for me. I think those of us that love tax loath AUD and those that loathe Tax love AUD. I knew this section would be the hardest for me and as a result I waited almost 24hrs before checking my score (after score release) because I wanted to make sure I was ready for my epic fail….I did pass but I would still say I hated everything about studying for AUD (except that my book was much smaller than for the other areas!).

Good old Gandalf, "All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is give to us."
"Not all those who wander are lost."

    FAR: I slayed the Dragon!
    BEC: I defeated the Siren!
    AUD: I eliminated Medusa!
    REG: ?????

@CPAhereIam Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was always YOU, Helen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

@Study Monk I agree…but it's still wrong unless you look at all of them…eeeeekkk!!!!!!

The lack of calculation is exactly what makes audit so terrible!!! Too subjective!!!!! Even though I'm gearing up for round 3 with FAR, I don't hate it like I hate audit. What kills you on FAR is the quantity of topics, IMHO.

I was an auditor AND an internal auditor, so I think that really helped me with my exam. Also, I got a SIM that was asking for audit procedures specific to the industry that I audited for 4 years of my career. How is that for luck? (PS- I really do think that luck does play a big part in how well people do on these exams). BUT audit was by far the most torturous for me to study. It is soooo boring! Everytime I would read a new chapter, I'd just be like “who cares???? this is so dumb!!”

Side note- I really liked studying for REG, even though it was my lowest score. I've never worked in tax/law, but at least those topics are things that do/can pertain to my personal life. I was taking all sorts of notes on how I can save money on my own tax return 🙂

    F- 7/13- 84
    R- 10/13- 79
    A- 11/13- 99
    B- 1/14- 86

    Licensed in PA- 3/20/2014

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

agreed with taking audit 5 times is a punishment in itself! defnitely proved to me i was right to go into tax and not audit! after passing far on my 3rd try i thought it would be all easy, two tries to get through audit. instead audit caused me to lose BEC and REG, which i found out 3 weeks after i got laid off. easily worst month in my life.

    AUD 59,69,71,73 76
    BEC 79(LC), 80
    FAR 71,59,78 (expires 1/31/14)
    REG 77(LC), 88!!!

    DONE 12/6/13
