AUD: Yaeger CPA Review Question

I’m hoping to take AUD at the end of February and am using the Yaeger CPA Review study material. I finally got comfortable with Cindy and Phil for FAR, but now it sounds like Gary Bulmash is going to be the main guy for auditing. Highlighting along with Cindy during FAR was boring, but the fact that she eliminated trivial passages really helped me go back and get the most out of the material the next time I read. Bulmash on the other hand just seems to skim around and expound on things at random. I really don’t understand what I’m supposed to get out of that or why I’m paying money for it. Any tips on how to go about this? Right now I’m thinking about just reading the book and then going back and hoping to gain something from watching the parts on multiple choice questions.

At first I was really frustrated with the Yaeger Auditing as well, but Gary, even though his delivery is different than Cindy, offers a lot of insight into the Auditing material. I listened to all his lectures and when he went through the multiple choice questions I would pause the lecture and try to figure out the question on my own. Personally it was worth the time to listen to him.

I'm sure its worth the time, but my question is how far the lectures will take me. Gary seems to skip over far more than he covers in the book, so I don't wanna make the lectures a focal point of my strategy if its gonna leave me grossly underprepared for the test. On the other hand, going through the whole book by myself seems like an absolute bear. Tons of information in there. Obviously I can't memorize all of it, and unlike FAR, the lectures don't give me any idea what to really focus on. I figured this test would come a little easier considering I had a pretty good strategy built up, but now I'm just at a total loss as to how to study now that Bulmash has taken over.

Try the ninja notes freebie … see if it adds some structure to your studying:

I would recommend reading the book AND watching the lectures. Gary is great and really nails the key points, but you need to read the book to help fill in the gaps. I watched lectures, read the book and then rewatched the lectures.

Alright, I probably sound like a big dummy right now, but how do I read this book?! I've worked on the first five or ten pages or so, but every little bullet point seems like it could have some bearing on a question. I'm trying to take notes as I go, but right now I'm just copying the book practically line for line because every fact seems about as pertinent as the last as far as I know. There's no way I'll finish at this rate. I tried just reading through the book, but without any kind of conceptual narrative that I can tell, it's just a bunch of statements and caveats that I can't retain for more than 40 seconds. There's gotta be some trick to this!

Read the NINJA (free) chapter – and then work Wiley MCQs. As you work MCQs…you will start to get fewer and fewer wrong.

Take notes over the MCQs in the margins of the NINJA notes. I think the free chapter is Sampling.

    Try that.

I did download the free notes, but I'm not really familiar with the NINJA notes. Is the idea to use solely the ninja notes and then do MCQ's or is that just a supplement?

People have only used them and Wiley MCQs and passed … best practice is to use your review course with it.

If that's not working … try just the ninja notes and Wiley MCQs. Listen to the free audio chapter as well in your commute or wherever.

I had to watch the videos twice in order to get anything out of them. When I knew the material a bit better the videos made more sense the second time. Sometimes during Cindy's videos I thought she got into way to much detail explaining the questions, but now I miss that. Gary just doesn't seem to go into many details, but also there is not any computations in this section so it is a different teaching style all together. I have the Ninja notes as well, and they seem to be helping. I didn't expect Auditing to be this difficult for me, but I do better with the math parts than concepts.
