    Hello everyone, just I’d post about my AUD experience today. I hate to feel overly confident, but I think I totally nailed it. I would say that almost every single MCQ I had seen before in Becker…some even word for word! I finished the 3 testlests in about an hour and 15 minutes. I didn’t really notice the questions getting any harder as went on with testlets… maybe a little bit? But I could hardly notice. After my 3 testlets, I had a lot of time left, so I took a break and went to take a sip of Redbull, at this point I was happy of how easy the MCQs were, but I was also freaking out thinking the SIMS would be horribly hard!…To my surprise, they were not very hard. Did anybody else feel good about their test today? I am worried that I’m so confident and end up failing LOL

    How is weighting questions based on the percentage of people that answer it correctly not curving the exam? Of course it's curved! The only way can say it's not curved is that they don't give everyone an unbiased grade and then pass a certain % of us. No, instead, our grade is biased (weighted) from the start in order that only a certain % pass. That's why you see the pass rate fluctuate a bit, but it stays very close to the same, year after year.

    @David, I'm not one for surgarcoating. Brutal honesty is more my speed. If it's any consolation, I'm definitely getting a reserved seat on that ride.

    @ Katiekanton

    I would guess that your frustration of meeting questions you weren't prepared for is intentional by the AICPA; the test is designed for people who work in accounting and know the little things not mentioned in books. My experience leads me to think that this effect is more pronounced on the AUD exam then others, but maybe that's personal bias. My constructive advice: do lots of test bank questions; the “random questions” you weren't prepared for will still be there, and they aren't in the books because there's nothing else to know about that small topic.

    Also I agree with Minimorty. I've never seen a smart person brag about it, or write stream-of-consciousness babble that reads like they talk.

    @Kasia, thanks for the reassurance! I've decided I will accept the results either way, nothing I can do about it at this point..although it's nice feeling that I have a good shot at passing.

    I agree with @katiekanton, these tests definitely have a high degree of ‘luck' to them (specially on the SIMS)…on the sections I've taken so far, I've almost had a heart attack each time I am waiting for the computer to display the SIMS…you just never know what you're going to get. It's definitely not fair for one candidate to get hit with ridiculous SIMS and another with easier ones; however, I also agree with @Mini in that the whole purpose of these tests is for us to have sufficient knowledge to protect the public. That's why I am a proponent that we should join @Kasia's red-panty revolution, so we all get easier SIMS LOL.

    As far as the whole being smart thing, all I can say is that I consider everyone who can meet the requirements to sit to take the CPA very smart, I know the sacrifices and the strenuous mental activity required.

    @katiekanton, I am pretty sure you are smart, but it doesn't mean people who are not as smart as you can not pass the test. you might score a 90, and the rest of the people, hopefully including me, can still score 75 – 90, and that is huge possibility, and we are the majority making up the 40% pass rate. I remember when I was in college, there are two type of exams, one is curved and one is not. The one is curved is usually harder, and the class scored an average in 50-70s. The one that is not curved is usually easier 'cause the exam has taken the general population's ability into consideration. I believe that the AICPA has said 'cause there is no point or incentive for them to lie.

    A little light reading rather than speculation.

    @mla,

    “Scaled scores on the multiple-choice and task-based simulation portions of the Exam are calculated using formulas that take into account factors such as whether the question was answered correctly and the relative difficulty of each question.”

    From your “light reading” – supporting my point above.

    @goodluck2everyone: that's what I thought after I read Mini's post…pissing people off again lol.

    @Katie: it could have been that some of your difficult sims were pretest. Sad thing is we'll never know.

    Now, what I'm wondering is, how did you guys go about studying for AUD? Just videos + MCQ nonstop? Does this section require additional study methods that are usually strongly recommend for REG and FAR (like re-writing notes). Reason I ask is that I;m studying for BEC and AUD to taking in January. I know it's doable, but I want to study in the most efficient way possible. THANKS!
