    Hello everyone, just I’d post about my AUD experience today. I hate to feel overly confident, but I think I totally nailed it. I would say that almost every single MCQ I had seen before in Becker…some even word for word! I finished the 3 testlests in about an hour and 15 minutes. I didn’t really notice the questions getting any harder as went on with testlets… maybe a little bit? But I could hardly notice. After my 3 testlets, I had a lot of time left, so I took a break and went to take a sip of Redbull, at this point I was happy of how easy the MCQs were, but I was also freaking out thinking the SIMS would be horribly hard!…To my surprise, they were not very hard. Did anybody else feel good about their test today? I am worried that I’m so confident and end up failing LOL

    @jenuno01

    I felt the same way when I left AUD. I finished with over an hour to spare and could not really tell any change in difficulty between the testlets.

    @katiekanton,

    I agree. I can't see how it's fair that these exams are so varied. I have a similar story. I'm smart, too. Completely breezed through my college classes in accounting. The only blemish to my 4.0 was an A- in Mathematical Analysis with a completely ridiculous Prof. I was VERY prepared for REG this summer, easily my strongest subject of the four sections.

    And yet, I left the exam not even feeling a bit confident that I passed because of the ridiculous difficulty of both the MCQ and especially the Sims. Imagine my shock when I ended up with a 90! I was pleased, of course, but now I have this feeling that I can't really trust this exam.

    I took AUD yesterday, breezed through the MCQ's and 5 of the sims. The last two were extremely long, difficult, and on material that wasn't in Becker anywhere! I'm still fairly confident that I did well, but who knows?

    REG: 90, 8/27/11
    AUD: 91, 11/30/11
    BEC: 92, 10/6/12
    FAR: 91,11/3/12 DONE!!! PTL!!!

    I'm much calmer today, but thinking about it, I wonder if the sims aren't actually adaptive as well. I don't think they're telling us the whole truth about the exam. I wonder if you do well on the MCQs (because I did, I bet I didn't miss more than 9, and I actually only found 1 that I know for sure I got wrong, although odds are there were others), then they throw you the difficult sims for experimentation purposes. I'm totally aware that I could just be trying to make myself feel better.

    The only way varying difficulty would be “fair” is if, for instance, say one person gets a sim on a unmodified opinion report format, and one person gets one on auditing hedge funds (for which the specific questions they're asking aren't found in the auth lit). These are random examples, not to be assumed to be content from my exam experience. The report is worth 8 theoretical points, and the hedge funds one is worth 15. You're allowed partial credit on each. Then the total points on the exam add up to say, 120. If you get 75 points you pass. Kind of like a professor who gives you a menu of different options of earning points in his course. One page reports on each chapter are worth 5 points each. One twenty page term paper is worth 40 points. A service project is worth 25 points. Daily attendance is worth 10 points. Assemble 75 points however you wish.

    I still think the consistency in the pass percentages indicates curving, though.

    Anybody read that Wetzel article on the BCS today? That's sort of what this reminds me of.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

    @katie – Try to take a couple deep breaths. Also, the sims are not adaptive.

    It seems that we're not getting the same sims, which makes me think that they either change the sims a few times within the window or have lets say 20 sims in total and it's whatever you get.

    I don't think they're adaptive, cause the first time when I totally bombed the MCQs, I got a few very hard sims.

    @75 – your experience shows that tey would be adaptive (bomb MCQ so easy sims). However, it's just a coincidence.

    @Mini, I reread my post just to make sure, and I don't see anything in it that indicates I'm ranting or angry, or need to take deep breaths. I was proposing a legitimate scenario of how the exam might be set up that would fit the conditions of one person getting really easy sims and another getting sims that are terribly difficult and not covered in any review material, while grading both fairly.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

    I didn't explain it right – those few were exceptionally hard — I didn't have that hard sims the second time around.

    @katie – Why do you think they are adaptive? Because of one isolated incident?

    The AICPA flat out comes out and says they are not adaptive. The AICPA is generally vague, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are not blatantly lying. I took four exams and scored stronger on all four multiple choice sections. Some of my SIMS were tough and some of the my SIMS were not as difficult. I would imagine its just a random drawing.

    You've written like 4 essays on this over the last two days. I wasnt saying calm down because you are angry. I just think you could go with the flow a little bit more. There is nothing you can do about it, so why spend so much time and energy with it?

    @75 – Ahh, gotcha. So yeah, in your instance, that shows that the SIMS are not adaptive.

    Each person will have varying experiences. Sometimes you will do well on MCQ and get hard SIMS. Sometimes you will do well on the multiple choice and get easy sims. You never know.

    What is ACT? And how good is getting 34 on it? Is it graded 1-100?

    How smart is the guy who gets 798 on quantitative section of GRE?

    My experience has been that those people who are truly smart don't feel the need to let other people know they are smart.
