@FutureCPA , DPD, Thank you for the encouragement, means alot. I do agree with the becker final exam difficulty, i have experienced in my last exams, that normally your actual score is bit higher than these tests, that gives me hope and confidence. As reading really makes a difference in the last days for me, i believe i will be in better shape by the end of the review. Good luck to you all. We can do it !!

    FAR : 68, 74, 83 Thank you God 🙂
    BEC : 78 (8/27) 🙂

Ok, am I mis-reading this question:

In an integrated audit of a nonissuer, an auditor should issue an adverse opinion on the effectiveness of an entity's internal control in which of the following situations?

    A.

    The financial statements are misstated.

    B.

    A material weakness exists.

    C.

The entity may not continue as a going concern.

    D.

The auditor was asked by the client to provide the report to another practitioner.

The correct answer given is B, but what I have an issue with is the reason why:

PCAOB Auditing Standard 5 requires that the existence of a material weakness in internal control results in an adverse opinion. The statement must include an understanding of internal controls, assessing the risk of material weaknesses, testing and evaluating the design and operating effectiveness, and performing any other procedures.

The question asks about a nonissuer, but the reason given in the answer says “PCAOB Auditing Standard 5.” Doesn't PCAOB standards only relate to issuers?? (I chose A, btw).

The question is asking about an adverse opinion on the effectiveness of the INTERNAL CONTROLS. Just because there is a material misstatement in the Financial Statements, it doesn't mean that the Internal Controls deserve an adverse opinion. However, if there is a Material Weakness = they must issue an adverse opinion on the INTERNAL CONTROLS.

DPD516 – in regards to the question you asked before….see question:

Before reissuing a compilation report on the financial statements of a nonissuer for the prior year, the predecessor accountant is required to

a.Obtain an updated management representation letter from the entity’s management.

b.Compare the prior year’s financial statements with those of the current year.

c.Review the successor accountant’s working papers for matters affecting the prior year.

d.Make inquiries of the entity’s lawyers concerning continuing litigation.

    The correct answer is b.

@DPD516, I believe the situation you are talking about where you need a management rep letter is when the report on prior period F/S is audited by the predecessor auditor (Becker, A1-49). And where you don't need the management rep letter is when the predecessor auditor performed a compilation or review (Becker, A2-54). This confused me because becker put these in different chapters

@nisacoff and @sileemo, yes it makes sense now. You never need a Management Representation letter with a compilation; thus, when reissuing a compilation report, it does not make sense to get an updated one.

Could someone explain the following distinction to me?

“Positive assurance is provided in reports on Special Purpose Framework financial presentations to comply with contractual agreements or regulatory provisions.”

“Negative assurance is provided in reports on compliance with aspects of contractual agreements or regulatory requirements related to audited financial statements.”

al0515 – I never replied to you in regards to the agreed upon procedures -answer#2…if I recall, it was indicated in the answer that a negative assurance is permissible in an agreed upon procedure (maybe upon agreement with the client?) thats why that wasn't the right answer…

Taking AUD on Friday…ready to get this one off of my plate. I'm having anxiety and worried that my NINJA trending and average scores are too high and giving me a false sense of hope. I'm at 85% trending and 82% average. I took a practice exam on CPAExcel and got an 80%. It took me awhile to start grasping this material but sometimes I feel like its all coming together and other times I still worry that I'm not really getting it. Anyone else in the same boat? Good luck to all Q2 audit test takers!

    I am done!!!!

@MandiJ21, I think that anxiety is normal. I, too, have been scoring well on practice exams and progress tests in Becker. I think audit is one of those topics they could throw any wordy question at you that makes you question everything you know. I just keep telling myself it is passable, and plenty of people have proven that! I take it Wednesday, so I am trying to keep my anxiety in check by continuing to read through my notes and practice MCQs. I might re-do a couple Sims if I am up to it :-/

hey you guys thought the answer to this question was weird…

If the auditor intends to rely on the operating effectiveness of relevant controls, which test of controls is necessary to obtain sufficient appropriate evidence?

    A. Inquiry.

    B. Observation.

    C. Inspection.

    D. Reperformance.

    Answer (A) is correct.

According to AU-C 330, an auditor’s tests of controls include other audit procedures in combination with inquiry. For this purpose, inquiry combined with inspection, reperformance, or recalculation may be preferable to inquiry and observation. Observation is relevant only at a moment in time.d
