barelystayingsaneMemberAnalytical procedures are ratio and trend analysis. Substantive analytical procedures are just analytical procedures used for substantive testing. For planning purposes/risk assessment procedures, analytical procedures cement the auditor's understanding of the financial statement elements' relationships and help identify any unusual relationships that might require further testing. For substantive testing, analytical procedures are basically a reasonableness test. Substantive procedures are made up of analytical procedures and tests of details. They test whether there may be any misstatements.

Re: taking all four tests in a short amount of time.
I have no kids or wife. I do work full time, probably 45 hours a week.
My time table:
Far don in late august
AUD Oct 12
BEC Late Nov
REB Early Jan
The reason, I just want this done.
How I go about doing it?
Study 25 hours a week for 4-6 weeks, take the test, pass, and move on.
25 sounds really difficult to get to, but it's really not. You do have to sacrifice most other things you like to do, for me it's watching soccer and tv shows and reading books (except Breaking Bad, i'll fail to watch that)
Just study 1.5 hours before work + lunch. Then study 2 hours at night. That's 3.5 hours * 5 days = 17.5 hours before the weekend even starts.
Usually for me, it's 15 going into the weekend, something always comes up at some point.
Then it's just 5 hours sat, and 5 hours sunday. I try to break my weekends up just like my weekdays.
I get up, do an hour, then have fun. Then study for two hours around 1-3. Then have fun. Study again 7-9. Then relax and do it again on saturday.
For me, the key has been pounding MC questions. For FAR it was pretty helpful, but for auditing, it's been amazing.
I have completed 1670 MC so far from the Gleim software. That's taken me about 2.5 weeks. To do all those and read each chapter once. No notes while reading. Just notes while doing MC.
I still have 1530 MC left, about 1100 in wiley and 400+ left in gleim.
I have that many questions left and I feel like I can pass AUD right now. I dare anyone to read the whole book, and try hard doing it. Then do 3000 MC questions in 4 weeks, and fail.
If you are taking your time on each question, and really understand WHY the right answer is right, and the Wrong answer is wrong, that's all you need.

AnonymousInactive@IVR21–Yes! I feel like that all the time. My husband works 2 jobs and I work full time. He is NO help when I need to study so my parents watch the kids while I work and then two nights a week and all day Saturdays so I can study. When I first started studying for BEC and AUD in May I would stop by my parents house after work before going home to study and my 2 year old would cry that she wanted to go home. It broke my heart to tell her I couldn't take her with me because I had to study. My 9 month old said, “Mama” to my mother last week AND my 4 year old told me she wanted to have a sleepover at my mom's house every night, not just twice a week. I've cried about all of these things, but I just keep telling myself that they are young and most likely will not remember all this time that mommy has to leave them at Nana's to “do school stuff”. I have to tell myself daily that it is worth it. Once we're done we can have our lives back and enjoy our families again. You can do it. Just remind yourself that the longer you dwell on what you're missing, the longer it will take to finish. I know…easier said than done. ๐

AnonymousInactive@3Down1ToGo–I didn't use the AL at all during my first take with AUD. I haven't taken FAR or REG yet so I can't help with the comparison for those exams, but with my second AUD studying I am trying to do one SIM every time I take a Practice Session with the Wiley Test Bank. I have used the search feature if I didn't know the answer right off the bat. It does help find some of the answers. One question was about a ratio that I couldn't remember so I searched it and the formula was in the AL. I was able to get the answer right being able to see the formula and the AL's explanation of how to interpret the formula. It may not work for all SIMS, but it has helped me on a couple of them. This is only going to be helpful if you have enough time to search and read the few sections of the AL pertaining to your question. I hope that helped!

AnonymousInactive@MrsBing–I have difficulty remembering the lecture as well. I am going to do the same as you and focus on the book and my notes this time. I have started going through the book and jotting down extra notes on my Ninja Notes. When I am done with the book I will rewrite all the Notes combined a couple of times. I'm doing MCQs pertaining to each section I read as I go through the book, but the real test will be at the end, after I have rewritten my notes and start taking MCQs over ALL the material at one time. Good luck!
@CPA.Hopeful.2013–That is great that your job let you take 3 months off and you were able to knock out a couple of exams. I would love to do that, but I don't have a slow period at my job. I guess I'll need to have another baby so I can get the 6 week leave to study–just kidding. ๐
@Titine–You are correct. The old layout had Management's responsibility included in the Introductory paragraph. The new layout has a separate paragraph for Management's responsibility. You'll need to know both ways.
@thehip41–Thanks for your response. I haven't been able to do the early morning studying yet and probably won't because I am no morning person, but I manage to get in at least one hour of listening to the Ninja Audio every day on my commute or at lunch time. I get two nights a week to study the book and take MCQs (approximately 4-5 hours each of those two days) and I get all day Saturday (approximately 8 hours) for book/notes/MCQs/SIMS. I have the AUDIO practically memorized so I am not sure if it is still helping to keep listening to it. I also have the flashcards on my phone and practice those a little bit each day as I can. I would love to just have one entire week to study the way I want instead of studying a little here and there. I feel like I'm starting fresh every time I sit down to study and it's driving me crazy.

AnonymousInactiveDoes anyone know the importance of trying to remember relevant section or SAS numbers, such as “auditor responsibilities regarding reporting on an entity's internal control are detailed in ASB SAS 109 and PCAOB AS 5”. I cannot remember whether or not the exam was that detail specific.

AnonymousInactiveEmphasis on formulas? The Kaplan text lists at least 20 formulas in the audit evidence section. Ninja Notes lists 4 formulas as ones to memorize. This is my first time using Ninja Notes. Would any of you that have used them before say they are pretty good at focusing on what you NEED to know?
