The exam overall wasn't bad. This is my second time taking it, so I went in with a bit more confidence. The MC weren't bad. In comparison to Becker i'd say they were about the same. Maybe even a little easier since they are a little less specific. All in all very similar though. Not one MC question did I not at least have a very educated guess. Then I got to the first TBS question. I'll try not to be too specific, but it was an adjusting entry problem. I pay $3,000 for Becker, so I assumed the program would at least cover everything. The question asked regarding Bonds, including bond premiums as well as bond discounts. This was something I had learned in Intermediate Accounting II, & something very suitable for the for the FAR exam. However, seeing as I am taking AUD, I had not looked at these in years. I have never dealt with them at work in the real world yet. I was informed that if any adjusting entry problems came up, they would be very general. Unfortunately this one was not. I am strongly hoping this was a the pre-test question, because if I studied for this exam 100 times that is something I would never have studied. If it wasn't a pre-test question, I find it extremely unfair & a huge stretch on what we are supposed to be studying. Why break the CPA into four sections if virtually anything is testable? I dont know, i'm ranting now lol. Anyway, I had one other TBS that I found unfair, where I was placed as a senior auditor in a problem. As a first year staff, this seemed unfair as well. A senior is as high as you can get without your CPA in my firm, so i'm confused why I'm forced to think like one when i'm taking an exam to eventually become a CPA. This question gave me multiple documents, numbers, conceptual parts, everything. Seemed like a workpaper from work where i'd be budgeted for 3-4 hours maybe. All-in-all nothing too different about this exam from the previous time I took it. MC a little easier, TBS a little harder. I'd say just study the material & learn from MC questions by reading the right & wrong answer explanations. Be familiar with TBS formats, but this just goes to show that they will hit you on TBS questions any way they want to.
