I’m taking AUD tomorrow and I keep reading how important it is to use the research tab to help. Is it difficult to find what you’re looking for? Anyone that has already taken AUD have any suggestions for how to efficiently look things up or is it your standard keyword search?

Thanks for any help. Fingers crossed for my exam tomorrow.

    FAR - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER)
    AUD - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)

IMO it is useful to some extent. For eg. the simulation is about the real audit issues one can effectively use the research tab to some extent. However it is for correcting journal entries or suggesting journal entries or kind of valuation of inventories etc. one should have the knowledge & application base. Good luck for you.

Even I am taking the audit exam next week and had no success with using the authoritative literature tab. Am I not researching the material correctly? Is there a technique?

Be familiar whether a particular topic relates to AU or AT or AR or CS or TS. Generally, AU Standards are starting with AU followed by 3 numeric digits. I am using Becker and one of the practice questions they referred to supplementary section also like AU 9380.

On my successive failures in BEC (73 & 74) I red a book “You can pass the CPA Exam” by Debra Hopkins. Debra emphasizes Audit is a Core Exam Part of the CPA Exam, which requires high %age of correct answers both in MCQs and SIM in order to pass this section. Therefore, each component of the Simulation has to be taken seriously whether it is a research or simulation question. Also, the MCQs and SIMs are graded by machines and hence there should not be any emotions or feelings or bias while preparing for these exams. I am also taking Audit next week. Practicing daily about 500 MCQs, number of simulations and understanding the concepts.

Taking AUD tomorrow as well. I've done about 2,000 MCQ's with CPAexcel and Wiley and probably 45 SIMs.

Everything is melting together and is hurting my head.

    edit: ok maybe 1500 MCQ's

Anyone else feel the same taking it tomorrow?

I thought the research section was extremely helpful. If you're efficient in the MC section, you should have a ton of time for the simulations so use every minute of it. If you get a topic that you're not particularly strong in, being able to access the authoritative literature is EXTREMELY helpful. Honestly, the answers to every single simulation are in the literature if you take the time to look for them.

OUCPA84 – I'm taking it tomorrow but feeling pretty good because Audit is my thing.

However, there are always uncertainties. I used CPAExcel a lot for this section which doesn't have a huge selection of questions so unfortunately I managed to memorize a lot of them. I got the Wiley book for cross-reference to try to avoid that.

I'm also confused because CPAExcel has only portions of the AU & AT sections available in the authoritative literature. Wiley has some TBS' that require you to look up stuff in the ET, PCAOB, AR, etc. sections. So, I have no idea how many sections of the authoritative literature are going to be available. Also – CPAExcel didn't really emphasize the ratios too much so I'm contemplating whether I need to know more than the basic 3 or so.

Best of luck to you tomorrow!

@wmalvino CPAexcel's TBSs always have only partial authoritative literature. The exam will have everything. This caught me a bit off-guard for my research question. Be as comfortable as possible with as many sections of the literature as you can if you have the study time. I'd still say to focus on AU, AT, and AR though.

    Good luck y'all!

    @wmalvino

I agree with you on CPAexcel. They should make the Auth. Lit exactly the same as the test as it will take me a few minutes to navigate a new presentation.

I also bought Wiley because on CPAexcel's simulated exam i recognized at least 60% of the MCQ and didn't even have to think. Also, the TBS'S were word for word the ones presented with the sections. Wiley SIMS are longer but similar.

I've done as of now, 855 MCQ's on Wiley + 1,056 on CPAexcel and like i said, my brain hurts lol.

Anyway, good luck to you as well.

@Sapper – thank you and crud. CPAExcel was so c-y-a on alot of the FAR material I figured they were that way about everything. Well I guess I know what I'm going to be doing tonight.

@OUCPA84 – I'm going to resist the urge to freak out because I haven't prepped as much as you. I do get that they can't reproduce the entire authoritative literature dbase in CPAExcel – but really missing entire sections?! Think if you're even scoring low to mid 70s in Wiley you should be good. Think everyone agrees Wiley is close to or harder than the real deal.

For me, the best way to find something in the Authoritative Literature was to first use the Topical Index (topics in Alphabetical Order) and then the Search Within function. For example, if your question asks you about inherent risk in auditing derivatives (random topic – not from my exam), I would look up “Derivatives” in the index. Then once I clicked on that topic to open the literature, I would put “inherent” in the Search Within field. HTH! Good luck!

wmalvino – I didn't intend to be a 1 upper lol. We'll see if massive amounts of mcq's works for me.

I've scored right around 75-78 in my weakest areas on Wiley (i/c, evidence, reporting) lol the major areas of the exam

everything else is 79+ so I hope you are right about Wiley being harder because i'm right on the bubble if not.
