    Hi everyone,

my exam for AUD is in a couple days, and had a question regarding independence

    1. can a CPA perform non-attest services for an Attest client? For example can a CPA do an audit, review, or compilation (attest services) and then do the tax return and some bookkeeping services (non attest) ? what are the rules/criteria if this is allowed ?

    2) are the rules different for PCAOB (issuer) in reference to the above question? My question above pertains to non-issuer (AICPA)

    Thanks

The PCAOB expressly forbids entities that performs SEC audits of issuers from doing

    Bookkeeping
    Financial systems design and implementation
    Appraisal and valuation
    Legal Services
    Outsourced internal auditing
    HR
    Investment Banking
    Actuarial services
There is one more. I forgot

Actually your best answer is to look at the Independence Interpretations from the AICPA

Doing attest services and tax returns are okay but not when it's aggressive (ex Tax shelter)
