    Hi Everyone!

I will be taking my first stab at the CPA exam on Feb. 10th for AUD and I am currently in the final review stages. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips or tricks for final review. Right now I feel really weak in the SIMS, so I’m devoting an entire week to reworking the SIMS for each chapter and the last week I am going to spend working just MCQ.

    Thanks!
    Kris

    Good idea.

Do SIM, after SIM, after SIM … until you get confident. If you run out of SIMS, find some more, and redo the ones you missed.

I would not plan any further out than that. Reevaluate after you are confident on the SIMS.

I wouldn't practice SIMS for an entire week. DO make sure you know how to use the authoritative literature, remember you can refer to the AL for every sim, not only the research sim. I was able to find almost every SIM in the AL. Know where to look for which types of questions but other than a few sims you'd be spinning your wheels on stuff you're not going to get as SIMS on the exam itself (trust me!).

Your time is much better spent on concepts and MCQ's.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

While it is important to practice a few SIMS and get yourself familiarized with the idea of simulations, what is MORE important is to make sure you understand all concepts very well.

You can spend a week mastering 10 SIMS and get completely different SIMS on the exam! So, take advice from someone who actually went through the whole thing and knows what she is talking about 😉

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

Take a practice test, or several. Nothing like high scores on practice tests to eliminate “nervousness.”

    What if it's low?? Lol

Kristina, what materials are you using? Do they explain how to keep track of time? It's important. You have to allocate specific amount of time for each testlet and make sure you don't go too much over it.

Tough_Kitty – I'm using Becker self review. I've been doing pretty well on time for the MCQ homework, about 30 seconds to 1 minute per question. I haven't done a practice test yet, but plan to on Friday. Right now I've just been going through the Final Review book and reworking the MCQ for each chapter.

    Thanks!
    Kris
