Recommended prep time for AUD is 4 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

sickofthisexam: My firm also only pays for exammatrix study materials (which is, as you alluded, extremely obnoxious and kind of crappy), so I have the books and study cd/”classroom for one” self study. I borrowed a friend's Becker books from 2009 and have been reading those, doing the problems that follow each chapter (I don't have access to the cds/lectures since he used the cds for a few computers) and then doing the exammatrix problems for each section. I've passed FAR and REG using this method and hope to pass Audit next week. I haven't had a lot of experience with any of the other materials that people usually discuss on here, so I can't really compare, but I think the exammatrix cd at least has been helpful – since it breaks down the different types of problem sets you can do (random, new questions only, only the ones you missed, only x and y topics, etc). The books; however, are pretty terrible and very difficult to read. I really prefer the Becker outline setup to the straight textbook feel of the exammatrix books, so I would suggest trying to get your hands on another set of textbooks if you find that the exammatrix style doesn't work for you. If you think that you can stay awake to read through the exammatrix text though, I'd just stick it out because I think the content is all there and the CD is decent enough to get you there without you having to pay out of pocket for another set of expensive materials. Good luck with however you decide to go about it!
November 4, 2010 at 7:22 pm #2581341togoParticipantI take AUD tomorrow at noon. I have watched all Becker lectures, completed all the homework twice, taken 20 questions quizes on all sections, took the 2 final exams, took a simulated exam, went over most of the flash cards, did the Becker Final Review, and am skimming over the book today. Any last minute recommendations to do today or tomorrow before the exam?

Good luck tomorrow!!!!
Wish i had some last minute advice for you, but alas I have none.
Why do you think you were not able to pass audit the first time? Did you learn anything helpful from your first experience?
I find it funny that I have seen lots of people pass FAR, BEC and REG with super high scores and then not get audit. Then others say it is the easiest one… Seems like its an odd ball exam to me. =[

November 5, 2010 at 5:46 pm #258136jshenkParticipantCan someone tell me if you need to memorize all of the substantive tests for each COVES assertion group for each accounting cycle (A/R, Inv, etc)?
November 5, 2010 at 9:21 pm #2581371togoParticipantI just got done taking the exam and am always a little nervous after. I feel like I knew more answers then the last time I took the exam, but I have heard that if you do well on a testlet the next one is supposed to get harder and you can tell that by the length of questions increasing. I didn't notice too many long questions. I had a few, but now I am worried even more. How can I feel like I knew more questions then last time, but yet not get a harder testlet. I am a more than a little worried now. Anyone else not get a whole lot of lengthy questions and still pass?

November 10, 2010 at 7:43 pm #258138AldogParticipant@Jshenk: Of course, how would i know….but I dont think its necessary to “memorize” all the substantive tests related tot he cycles…As Im doing these AUD questions, I find it is WAY MORE HELPFUL to use my general/problem-solving/practical knowledge to solve those types of questions…
for instance, all of these m.c. that ask for which of these “would NOT” yadda yadda…its very easy to kind of find the 3 answers that are alike or have something in common (like these all involve authorizing, but the 4th one has to do with number matching) and then choose the oddball. This is a strategy I have found to be very helpful…
GoodLuck!

FAR-75, AUD-82, BEC-82, REG-84 - CPAldog Official (well almost, hard parts over though!!!!!!!)November 11, 2010 at 2:23 am #258139Ryan77ParticipantI am planning on sitting for AUD in a less than 2 weeks. I do not feel very prepared. Should I postpone my exam until next year? If so, would I have to get entirely new study materials or would I be able to pass using the same materials and just looking over some updating supplements?
November 11, 2010 at 2:37 pm #258140exam_takerParticipantRyan – why not at least try it, what do you have to lose? My best studying definitely gets done in the week or two prior to an exam. Some of us work better under pressure, ha ha!
November 13, 2010 at 7:21 pm #258141moldoll16Participant3.5 days left of studying for me…. So not ready! (and not being a great studier either)
I am really freaked out by everyones report on their tests the last few weeks. Journal Entries and Ratios abound. Yuck. I am hoping that studying for FAR right before AUD will help a bit.
I still don't have the reports down word for word. Should I be drilling that into my brain? Or am I better spending my time doing hundreds of mcq. Or should I be working as many sims as i can get my hands on??? I hate these last couple days!
Does anyone have some existential motivational advice? I am fading fast when I should be in battle mode.

November 14, 2010 at 6:54 pm #258142Hopeful30ParticipantI was wondering if anyone has purchased Jeff's notes? Did they help you? I am taking audit in a week and still feel like I need some additional help with a few concepts. Does anyone know if you can download the notes or if they are shipped through the mail. Also, any suggestions for my last week of cramming?
November 14, 2010 at 7:41 pm #258143SwatiParticipant@ Hopeful30 – I used Jeff's notes for BEC and also using them for AUD. I'm finding them helpful. They are downloaded to your computer.
November 15, 2010 at 2:24 am #258144AldogParticipant@molldoll i have t-minus 43 horus until test timeee..my dilemma is im taking AUD tuesday and FAR thursday so am trying to cram everything, with my brain freakin out going back nd forth…my strategy is doing simulated exams (oinly m.c.), reading the pop-up text on questions idk or get wrong, and also using flashcards when on the move (maybe somehting will stick…?better than wasting the valuable time…)
I guess my motivational words for you, something that i try to think about when struggling to keep going…:
“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”
Be the latter, WE CAN PASS! its not a matter of “whats on test” or “luck”… its a matter of focus and desire to NOT wanting do this again haha
Im not saying i feel comfortable goin into either of these tests, but have to feel like ive been killin myself and sacrificing social life/relaxation for a while now, so has to pay off 🙂

FAR-75, AUD-82, BEC-82, REG-84 - CPAldog Official (well almost, hard parts over though!!!!!!!)November 15, 2010 at 8:02 pm #258145moldoll16ParticipantI like that quote a lot. Thank Aldog. And btw your crazy. I cannot imagine doing both in the same week!
I wish I felt more pressure and stress! For FAR I was freaking out! I couldn't think of anything but studying every second i was awake.
(I have the luxury of studying whenever I want, I work at a small small accounting firm, and my boss is my dad, sorry everyone else who has to balance this around a job at a big corporate firm! I know I am a brat.)
Now I am just so tired, and so out of stream I am barely focus! I was putting in 9 hours a day no problem. Not so much anymore. Last night I watched a movie and drank. Feeling a little guilty!
So on that note… my study plan for the rest of the day is to re-read all my notes. And do all the mcq that I did not get on my first try (when I redid them all for review, so actually my second time…) And no more checking my score!

November 15, 2010 at 8:55 pm #258146NumberguyParticipant@moldoll16 and others about to take AUD
I'm taking AUD on Friday..this is my 3rd time taking this exam. My advice is to be sure to pace yourself on the studying so you don't run out of gas right before you take the exam. I have done that and it is very frustrating. Make sure you take breaks
As for the reports…If you don't know them word for word…it is ok…You have to know the different things that are in them and where they are located.
Most of the Point Value is on Internal Control and Evidence….You can't go over that enough!
Good Luck!!!
