Good morning everybody!
Just took my AUD on Saturday. It went pretty well! Recognized most of MCs and SIM was fair. Overall, I had an hour to spare. Oh one thing to mention. On Research tab, make sure to read carefully before choosing your answer. I was reading through the possible choice and almost wasn't sure I wasn't in the right section because there were lesser and lesser hightlighted keywords as I was scrolling down UNTIL at the very bottom! THERE WAS MY ANSWER! I had a little “Ta-da” moment =) Hopefully I will find out soon enough. Until then gotta go back to studying for REG!

I am studying for AUD and a month away from my exam. I realized there are so much to remember for this session and I have a very bad memory… Can anyone give me some suggestions as to how I can study for this session more effectively?
Many thanks.

Hi there! From my very recent experience with AUD (past Saturday), make sure to be familiar with all types of reports. I would say at least half of my MC sections was about reports and its standards. I strongly recommend knowing important keywords or sentences frome each report (adverse, disclaimer, qualified for gaap depature, special reports, review report..etc). Best of luck to you all!

Getting it done in 2010! -> GOT IT DONE IN 2010October 27, 2010 at 2:48 am #258122AldogParticipantHey guys,
Im new to posting, have been reading since JULY when I started studying for FAR and AUD (Nov 16th in Penn Plaza)
Im using the Becker materials…AUD doesnt seem to bad, until i got to A4 and these mumbojumbo questions that ALL SOUND THE SAME…anyone have suggestions on summarizing the Audit Evidence, Usage, Documentation, and relevant Tests???
Also, I had an Accounting Info Systems class in college where we had to make these EXACT flowcharts from scratch found in the book…Any opinions on whetehr its even worht it to start drawing them out in the sense that itll help with regards to all the control needed? I feel like it just might be a waste of time to know the entire “Flow” of materials rather than to just keep doing m.c. and get a feel for the “Flows” that way…
And Im happy about the post above me, I have been writing and rewriting and rewriting the diffrent reports over and over so I can grasp what theyre all about…INEEDONLY75: this has helped TREMENDOUSLY rather than what I did in beginning, ya know just read it and think “yea that sounds about right for a compilation/review”…after being able to recite/write the unqualified report, comp, & review it deinfitly helps when answering the questions and thinking ab the modifications
GOOD LUCK TO ALL..remember to be POSITIVE…I am very pessimistic and when I think glass is half empty when studying for this test I just cant do it…if i think “Im gonna kill itttttt” I study a lot harder, more focused

Ineedonly75: Dont focus too much one thing, my exam was a borad overview and didnt get down to specifics like “I Can do it” was saying….however every test is different and even though I didnt get tested on it doesnt mean you wont.
Aldog: In response to the charts- I also did them in my AIS class and I wish I had reviewed them for my exam a little more, i would recommend knowing what control issues are associated with it.
Good luck!

It is the only materials my firm will buy for us, but I haven't had much luck with it so far and I was thinking of biting the bullet and paying to use something else, any suggestions?

October 29, 2010 at 9:45 pm #258126MasamanParticipantI completely agree with I can do it CPA. Reports had a few questions but I wouldn't go so far as to memorize them all. Get a good grasp on the standard audit report and just make sure you know the little nuances for each different opinion (qualified GAAP and GAAS, disclaimer, and adverse). Also Internal Control and Audit Evidence is pretty key. Becker rates this as like 36%-40% of the test.
Aldog – I think the best way is just plain flash cards/memorization. That was part of my studying where I got caught up on too. But don't let one part of the review consume a large chunk of your time. Make sure you hit all the sections.
Here is my deal. I just sat for this on Monday and I felt very good leaving the testing center. First two sections of M/C Q's were easier, as easy as CPA questions are, and the 3rd section was noticeably harder. The two simulations I felt comfortable with and didn't really have that, “I have no idea” feeling. When all was said and done I was an hour and a half early. An hour and a half!! I just needed to vent that with my fellow exam takers as I should be happy that I felt that way but instead I'm really nervous.
November 1, 2010 at 3:21 pm #258127jeffKeymasterAnswer to question above:
A: Answer A is incorrect because various procedures other than inquire and observation are possible when applying audit sampling (e.g., inspection and reperformance); also, the inquiry and observation techniques are not ordinarily used in statistical sampling applications.
B: Answer B is incorrect because both internally and externally generated evidence are acceptable for audit sampling.
C: Answer C is correct because audit sampling is the application of an audit procedure to less than 100% of the items within an account balance or class of transactions for the purpose of evaluating some characteristic of the balance or class.
D: Answer D is incorrect because both statistical and nonstatistical sampling techniques are acceptable.
November 2, 2010 at 12:05 am #258128moldoll16ParticipantHi Everyone out there! I am taking audit for the first time. I am using Becker (at lease for the time being). I have 16 study days until my test. I have already been though the lectures and the multiple choice questions once (back in August). It seems to be some much verbage to this test. I am very very worried/stressed/confused. I guess I am hoping for some advice or guidance about the best way to prepare. I dont know anyone who has passed this exam, so I have no one to turn to for advice.
Thanks!
Mollie
FAR 91 AUD 91 BEC 81 REG Oct 2011 is the plan
November 3, 2010 at 1:55 am #258129AldogParticipantHey Mollie 🙂
Im with you, got about 15 days til test time!!!!…….Right now Im pretty consumed with FAR for this week at least, next week Ill turn back to AUD. Im using becker, my thing is that I jus finished undergrad and have someeee of the audit stilll in my head, but it is very confusing the way the questions are worded. One pice of guidance, I wrote it erlier, that has really helped is literally rewriting the 5 or 6 different types of reports over nd over nd over
Again, “guidance” is tough with this stupid test and Im just trying to be “the glass is half full” type of guy as the exam approaches, at least Im not stressing too much with this mindset-things tend to work out, well pass, its just a test. I KILLED tests in college and studied for about an hour-im giving it 3 weeks (well Ive been ‘studying' since July, but have continued to blackout every week and have fun, deadmau5 concert on halloween marked the end of ‘fun') of as much cramming and lerning as I possibly can and will be rewarded 🙂

I've been out for 4 years, so it hasn't been that long, but those I know who are doing it straight from college seem to have an advantage.
I have been through all the reports, typed each one… killed the mcq on chapter 1, and the sim. I guess my biggest question is what parts should be focused on the most. From reading the forums, chats, posts etc of every website out there I keep seeing reports and ratios… well thats like chapter one and 10 extra pages. Not that I am not going to review everything!! But where is my time best spent. (by the way rations can kiss my butt… I studied them for FAR and of course got some of the most obscure ones on the test…. bomb)
Aldog.
I JUST took FAR, it was a beast for me. The best advice I can give you is know your journal entries and don't write off F8 & F9. I am 97% certain I will be retaking it in 2011 🙁 BUT I WANT TO PASS AUDIT NOV 18!!!!!!!
FAR 91 AUD 91 BEC 81 REG Oct 2011 is the plan
November 4, 2010 at 4:09 pm #258131AnonymousInactiveMoldoll- I wouldnt focus too much time on ratios….I didn't. CPAWannabe stated on Comment Page 1 that they sometime put formulas in the resource tab for simulations. I had that experience and they weren't even needed. Good luck!
November 4, 2010 at 4:39 pm #258132AldogParticipantMolldoll-apruneda: I kind of get the same feeling that ratios cant be that important, Im doing practice problems nd just an ‘inventory turnover' question…had no idea but thought about it for a second and came up with a logical ratio = cogs/avg inventory…what IM saying is that even if you DO get a question on ratios, either apruneda's resources he menitoned or general logic SHOULD get yout hru it…then again, it could be “Dupont return on assets” haha but this studying is all cost-benefit…
My plan is to revie wthem the last day before the test, along with the pass keys…hopefully is a good last day review
