AUD calculation SIMS

Hey guys, Im retaking AUD on October 1. (Expecting to pass this monster)

Anyways, last time I took it I was comparable and stronger on the MCQ and weak on SIMS.

Im pretty sure it was the 2 extremely difficult calculation SIMS that did me in. Im wondering if anyone has taken and AUD exam with NO calculation sims at all. (I hope that will be the case next time)

Just in case I do get calculation sims, whats the best way to prepare for them specifically?

    Thanks!

Exam disclosure rules would prohibit sharing too much about the SIMS, and I don't really remember too much about the SIMS I had in AUD, but I don't really remember having a lot of calculations to do. Seems the AL helped me with at least half of them.

Using the AL in the SIMS, particularly in AUD, is beneficial. As far as the calculation stuff goes, while I can't be sure exactly what type of calculation stuff you had, I would assume that the better you know basic accounting rules, the better off you are. I presume having taken FAR prior to AUD helps with that. Otherwise, reviewing basic revenue and expense recognition rules (timing at end of year, accrual, etc.) may help. Isn't that one of the basics an auditor is looking for – errors in revenue and expense recognition?

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

@mom, thanks for the info. True about being an auditor (i havent started my job yet but yea I agree)

My problems were more complex than just basic solve ar turnover or solving for a simple ratio, it seemed like it was from a FAR exam.

Ill try to beat it next time!

Well hopefully you will get a completely different exam next time! Like I said, I don't remember having any complex calculations, and was very glad about that. Good luck to you! You'll get it this time – congrats on BEC, by the way!

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

I think most people here would agree that it probably would have been best to take FAR before AUD since there's quite a bit of overlap.

However, you are already deep into AUD so I would try taking it one more time, and then if you don't pass again, I'd honestly think about taking FAR next.

It's been awhile since I've taken AUD, but I know I had at least 2 SIMS which could be considered FAR related on my exam.

I agree that taking FAR before AUD is probably best. I am not taking that route though. This will be my fourth time taking AUD, and on two of my previous exams I was stronger in multiple choice and weaker in sims. It's interesting to me that I keep getting similar sim questions for each exam I take. I have been studying smarter. I use Becker and also bought the auditing for dummies book to help me understand certain concepts that Becker does not explain in detail.

Regarding sim calculations, I would understand the ratios, not just how to calculate them, but the meaning behind them.

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 88!!! DONE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 76
    REG - 77

    never, never, never give up
