Hi Guys-

I am trying to decide the best approach to study for Audit. I am currently using Becker for my study materials.

I am currently in Audit 1. I watched the lecture, read the lecture and I am scoring 60% on the Mcq.

My question— should spend most of time revewing the chapter or should I spend most of my time doing MCQ?

I get frustrated when I get MCQ Wrong. I do feel when I truly understand the chapter I get the McQ correct faster… But I feel that I spend too much time reviewing the chapter. I am trying to decide the best approach. I registered to take my exam January 9 2016. I am not sure if I have enough time. Please help me! Any tips on ways to review the chapter. Should I watch the lectures again? I also bought the Becker flash cards.

Review the lecture & understand it well, then go to MCQ. No point in rushing to MCQ without really grasping the material. Also, MCQs won't help you on SIMS.

i made the mistake of focusing on MCQs & failed 2x. Study the chapters & understand them first

The two parts I previously passed I was able to do so with only MCQs. Especially with AUD. Everyone is different. I personally dont understand why people “waste” time with reading chapters. I always felt like reading the reason my answer was wrong is a way better way to study than reading the chapters. That way I KNOW the concept and in the cpa exam when they ask a similar question but change a few words around I can still get the question right.

Other people think the way I study is stupid. You really need to experiment with what works for you.

everyone got different study strategies, as evidenced by this thread and nearly every other one. the trick is finding one that works for you.

what worked for me is: skipping BECKER lectures (cant speak for any other prep courses) all together. Becker just basically says highlight this and highlight that(ESPECIALLY tim gearty in audit- he is painful.) i focused on going through the chapter first on my own. but go through the EBOOK they got on their online portal that shows all the highlights and annotations. again, ebook and not hardcopy non-highlighted book you got!
that way you get all the meat and potatoes of the topic without wasting 4 hours on sitting through the video lecture. its not a “lecture” if all they do is read the book for you- I can read it on my own! Becker really got their process down- what they got highlighted and annotated is the most important stuff that a candidate needs to know. dont bother with focusing on any of the non-highlighted stuff, and instead devote the rest of the time to MCQ. good luck, you can do it!

I abandoned Becker lecture after doing horrible on my 1st Audit exam. I had been closer to the pass score after using Yaeger. They do not go too deep into detail but hit the important points. Not saying Becker lectures aren't good; they just have too much stuff so you could get lost in the mountain of information. I'd say:
1. Listen to all lectures then focus on MCQ with understanding the concepts behind
2. Read the relevant standards, AU-C, PCAOB, AR to see how they answer your questions
3. Focus on SIMs more than the MCQs. This is a common area people have issue with. Most people that come to passing were due to SIM. Having read the relevant standards will help you pass it ultimately. GL
