    Pleae help.

I am not understanding which areas are part/not part of assurance and attestation.

From what I’ve read….Audits & Examination/Reviews/Agreed-upon procedures are part of Attestation.

    Which areas make up Assurance?

Also, I swear I read that compilation was part of attestation, but I’m confused b/c I thought attestation required independence and compilations do not—how can these go together?

An audit is not an attestation engagement, it is an attest engagement.

Attest is an engagement that requires independence and both audits and attestation engagements fall under that umbrella. And to clarify on compilations, these are attestation engagements and beginning on July 1, 2011, they require independence; however, a practitioner can do a compilation report when not independent as long as they disclose the lack of their independence in their compilation report or, if no report, in their engagement letter.

Assurance services include PrimePlus, WebTrust, SysTrust – any enggement that improves the quality of information for decision makers.

@Another74CPA – No problem! And thank you. Hopefully I'll breeze through it so I can get home and get some rest finally! I'm ready to get this thing over and done with.
