Are SIMS graded like the MC questions?

I know that the MC questions are weighted for difficulty, but are the SIMS also weighted for difficulty? I ask this because when it pertains to the Audit exam there are a number of varied experiences. Some say that they had “easy” SIMS that they were able to find word for word in the AL if they didn’t know the answer, while others say they got “difficult” almost FAR like SIMS that they had never seen before and couldn’t find in the AL.

Does the scoring take this into account?

I'd like to know this as well. I've heard that the SIMS are totally unrelated to the MCQ's, but I felt like I crushed the MCQ's on my test and had extremely hard SIMs with no ability to look up the answers in AL. Still waiting for my score.

No the sims are predetermined. But I think some people just have a better grasp of how to use the AL, and of course everybody has a better grasp of some concepts than others so if you're lucky enough to get sims on topics you're more familiar with they'll seem “easier” than sims on topics that gave you trouble.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

No one is really certain how they're scored. SIMs generally have lots of answer blanks. There is a theory that each blank is worth 1 or 2 points. For example, 1 journal entry would have 4 blanks and might be worth 8 points (2 for each blank.) So SIMs with say many journal entries are worth more points. Also, SIMs are predetermined and not based on your MCP performance. Its a crap shoot. Sometimes the SIMs seem super hard and unfair, other times not so bad.

No one really knows how they are graded, it is a secret. But it stands to reason that longer SIMS are worth more than shorter ones.

I just took mine today.. I honestly didn't study the sims enough I didn't really use the AL except on the research questionS. I had 2 which I also had on my FAR exam. I have heard this is out of the norm?

I lucked out on one of the sims as I have a finance background and played into my wheelhouse. I did use the AL for one question entirely as I was able to find word for word responses.

This is a retake for me. Also it is the first time using the full becker package as previously I just outlined the Becker book by hand, outlined the Wiley study notes by hand.. Then drilled Wiley Test Bank..
