Anyone else finding Audit to be extremely boring?

Maybe it is just the materials I am using (Yaeger Homestudy), but compared to REG and BEC which were tolerable in the materials, AUD has been something I have been totally unmotivated to get through. Anyone else having this problem?

Whereas Phil would at least make things semi-entertaining and bearable with some of his comments, Gary is killing me.

I’m testing on 10/04 and will be doing an intense, focused study between now and then, and am just hoping to do well enough to pass this thing.

I am doing the same and yes – I do find it boring.

I think reading the material in the book is more entertaining than listening to Gary read mc questions.

    FAR 67, 73, 71, 76; AUD 61, 85; BEC 70, 77; REG 75

    DONE

I also used Yaeger for AUD. I did find most of it very boring, Gary is not a light up the room kinda guy… I feel that he is a good teacher although a bit strange. I used to watch my lectures at lunch with headphones, but the problem is you can hear EVERY noise!! and Gary makes a bunch of them lol. His coughing, hacking, and moaning/whatever that is drove me NUTS. He definitely knows what he is talking about and makes it stick, but man I could have done without all the noises.

    BEC: 73,81(7/6/2010); AUD: 75(5/24/2010); FAR: 76(8/31/2010); REG: 77 (10/18/2010) - DONE!!!!

Same here…I can't focus its very boring. I agree w/Trevor about watching the lecture with the headphones and all those noise get annoying after a while.

@ Trevor – would you recommend watching all the lectures first then go back and review the material?

@Swati – thats what I did… I watched all the lectures (took ok notes – not great). Then I did a bunch of MCQ's and in the areas where I knew I needed to know more I read through the book and the standards. I tried to read every chapter in the book – some more quickly than others. AUD was not very big so this was doable I felt. I spent the weekend before reading the book and my notes as well as doing MCQ's. Prior to that all I had done was watch the lectures, so about 50 hrs of studying I figure…

    BEC: 73,81(7/6/2010); AUD: 75(5/24/2010); FAR: 76(8/31/2010); REG: 77 (10/18/2010) - DONE!!!!

I've never been a fan of Auditing to say the least, but I'd study it anyday over REG. REG is horribly dry. I feel like I'm just reading random fact after random fact. Auditing is more of a mindset (learning how to think like an auditor). REG is just memorizing law and tax codes.

I hate AUD. I guess that is why I had to take it three times to pass.

However, Garland (Lambers) was a very exciting teacher. Garland raised my AUD score by 10 points to a 74. I did Gary's Yaeger Cram and finally passed AUD.

Additionally, Gleim will give those 3,000 questions that you need to pass AUD. Wiley has a lot of good multiple choice questions; however the questions are not organized as well as Gleim.

I liked studying taxation. I found REG a piece of cake with Dr. Phil Yaeger.

Being said that I am a second language speaker, also my schedule 10a-10p, all I can say AUD was very boring, basically Chinese language to me (I graduated in 2005, last aud class 2005). However, I am making a PASSION out of it. I don't know how exactly it will work, but I am 3 weeks to 4 in studying. In the beginning I was vaguely remembering the words (forget about definitions, meanings, classifications etc). I mean, never made sense to me. After a while, now it's getting better. I begin to distinguish… even know or have concepts if not memorized but… right there in my mind. The idea is (and please forgive me if I say something wrong…but I want to give back the outstanding- valuable motivation that I get on this site)… the idea is to MAKE IT A PASSION, to dedicate yourself to this material, ok? Basically, I love the concepts, I love the book, and the more I read, the more I like it. I don’t want to be just an accountant, I want to be a CPA. ))Otherwise, it’s hard. I am using the Becker, and Wiley –I love Wiley but it’s too detailed, but hei, why not. I am also going to be working with Gleim’s book, because I want to follow the Gleim MCQ.

And… I do also have retaining AUD info …disorder!!! But I keep on reading and reading. I guess lecture would be good too, but I don't want to spend extra moneys!

Isn't accounting boring in general? But I'm also studying for BEC at the same time, and I'd much rather be studying BEC right now instead of AUD.

haha well I think everything can be boring, it just depends what exactly you are doing… I love my job, and it is definitely not “boring.” I am very busy and the tasks I have make you think quite a bit… I think if I was in GL then maybe I would be bored, but being in the tax department of a very large publically traded is treating me well…

    BEC: 73,81(7/6/2010); AUD: 75(5/24/2010); FAR: 76(8/31/2010); REG: 77 (10/18/2010) - DONE!!!!

It's encouraing to see I'm not the only one who feels this way about this section. I actually feel better and somewhat relieved. And yes, for what it is worth, I too would rather be doing the BEC material compared to the AUD material. It looks like this is something that will have to be muscled through. I wish the best of luck for those of you taking this thing, it is a bear.
