InactiveOkay…I just got my AUD score over the weekend…..AND…… a 74 !!! That makes THREE 74’s for me so far (one in BEC, which I’ve passed and two in AUD.)
I need a little help from everyone here…..why am I not throwing in the towel? Why do we do this to ourselves?
I’ll take any positive feedback I can get at this point………because I’ve now kissed April and May good-bye (in terms of having a life!!)
Only other candidates can relate to how I’m feeling right now…..
(My family thinks there’s a scorer who is doing this to me on purpose!)
Aarrggghhhhhh!!!!!

InactiveWhat review materials have you used? Perhaps a cram-version of a different materials than what you've used as your main materials will get you a couple of extra points.

ParticipantI've received 2 74s myself (1 in BEC and 1 in REG)…
Here are my thoughts on this:
1. DON'T QUIT, DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!
2. Think of your 74s like 70s. Realistically, scoring a 74 isn't much different than scoring a 70. So what's your point, you say?
Here's my point… you're at a point with your studies where you know the material just enough to give yourself a shot at passing, but the reality is, the AICPA/NASBA don't want you to know this stuff ‘just enough', they want you to know more than ‘just enough'…
Don't get hung up on the ‘score' and just be real with yourself. You need to tweak your study habit, plan, routine a little to get you over the hump! For me, it meant going back and doing exactly what I did when I got the 74, but adding a new element to my studies… with BEC, I re-wrote the outlines, for REG I bought the ‘Final Review' to supplement my studies…
Just add some new material or ingredient to your study plan, trust your foundation from when you were preparing and received a 74 and keep up the good fight. You can do this.
? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
? REG - 77 (1/15/10
? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)March 1, 2010 at 5:57 pm #617318Soanxious
ParticipantI am so sorry to hear that. Well, I can feel your pain. I have taken AUD 5X (pending my 1/5 results – still). I have repeated a 55 two times. I have often questioned why I have kept going because I have not passed one exam as of yet (taken 8 total). I learned the hard way of what not to do (I hope my 1/5 attempt will prove that). But you are so close and you are scoring well. I know it is not above that line, but a little bit more work and you will get there. I know you feel beat up, but you have to keep going. After my last scores I took a step back to see what I was stumbling on. It took a lot to admit the areas that I needed improvement on and I don't work as an auditor, which makes it tough. I guess you can say I took a step outside the box to see what was happening.
You have gotten over a big hurdle with the exams you have completed. I know it feels like someone tears your guts out when you see a non-passing score, but you an beat it. I hope this helps! :O)

Inactivecpawannabe – hang in there! A 74 is so close it hurts, but you can definitely get that 75+. I'm only on my second exam, but from everything I've learned on this forum, I'd consider using the Cram, or Becker's final review package to get that extra point. Get that now, and knock the test out the first week of April!
I know I've thought several times “why didn't I do this 20 years ago?” but the reality is I thought the MBA was the way to go for me. At the time, it was… but here I am, 42 years old with 3 kids, the midst of tax season (not to mention hockey & soccer!), and I'm trying to take these d*** tests! 🙂
You can do it!

InactiveHow did you go from a 64 to 79 so fast in Reg? Maybe try the same concept for Audit? You have come soo far, do not give up. You can do this. I would take a CRAM, to get you that one last point. At least you can take it in the next testing window. Good Luck! I'm sure you will do good

ParticipantThis is my advice. I scored 83 on FAR in Nov, and took AUD on 2/27–ran outta time. BUT, I ground up those multiple choice like smashnig pebbles with a jack hammer. I looked over them, marked for review, and went back through them no less than 3 times on each testlet. Time management is key. From what I can gather, you are not spending enough time on a certain testlet to get 74s. I mean, its uncanny how many times you have gotten that same score.
It tells me you do fairly well on M.C and bomb the sims, or vice versa. I feel like I May have passed AUD a few days ago. If not, I will NOT change my approach. So heres the method to my madness:
Read Chapters,. Work MC, Read flashcards, rinse and repeat. Then, about 5-6 weeks prior to the exam. start on Becker Final Review. Work Final Exam in software no LESS than 4 times each (there are two seperate final exams in the software). The Final Exams tell me where my weaknesses are.
You can get all the advice in the world, but my advice is probably the simplest. So…ask yourself: 1) Are you reading the chapters at least three times and taking extensive notes? 2) Are you utlilizing every possible piece of study material you can get your hands on? 3) Are you mentally prepared the last week before your exam? 4) Are you doing a FEW final reveiws 2-3 weeks before the exam to understand your weaknesess? 5) Do you understand that reading and knowing what is important is the key to passing? If there are 40+ homework MC questions on Sampling for attributes and errors, don't you understand this is gonna be heavily representative of the “real” exam? 6) Finally, are you working every possible simulation before the exam date? Sims are SO SO SO important. they apply your knowledge over several sections, whereas a MC tickles your brain only for a second.
The answers are right in front of you. Like a personal favorite of mine goes,” God sends us the message, but it is our task to decipher it.” Read, read, read. Some of the MC i saw three days ago were only able for me to answer because I was able to use deductive reasoning and apply the book knowledge to it.
You better not give UP! i am about to be 33. and I know how age seems to make you feel less advantaged on this exam. I gurantee you, if I talked to you, you would never fail another exam. The answers, my friend, are at your fingertips. It is YOUR TASK to decipher it. I promise you

ParticipantI took and passed 3 exams last year. I took AUD Friday. AUD is my last exam, or is it? I do not know!
I always have a Plan B. If I failed AUD, I will redo the 528 questions from CPA Exam For Free. Some of those questions were actually on my exam! I also have Gleim online and Gleim Test Prep that I never touched. If I failed AUD, I will do over 2,500 multiple choice questions!
I think that AUD is the easiest of the exams. AUD is only one subject and it is 100% memorization. There are only five main subjects, and there are only so many ways that they can ask those questions.
Another alternative is to buy Yaeger AUD. Gary goes over most of the multiple choice questions and simulations in the Wiley book. If you did all of the questions in the Wiley book twice, you should be good to go.

ParticipantAUD was my first exam and I passed the first time using Yaeger as my review. Contrary to what I have read a lot about on this forum, I barely memorized anything for the exam. Also I have never done any audit work.
What I think is the most important thing for me is to actually understand concepts and the logic behind them, rather than memorizing. When doing the MC questions, analyze each answer and say to yourself why each answer is true or false. Rather than memorizing the reports, learn what is the purpose of each report. Learn what is the purpose of each type of evidence. Learn the purpose of each type of control. For me, by actually understanding the logic behind the concepts I was able to see where the tricks were in questions, and easily able to take out possible answers to questions and then narrow it down to the answer.
I'm not sure if I explained myself well, but that is what worked for me. I actually felt a “turning point” when preparing for the exam, where things just really started clicking and I knew the concepts.

InactiveI have used becker for all tests so far. when i studied for BEC i felt that i was not going to pass. So i decided to do the Yaeger CRAM session. I scored a 77 which tells me that I probably would have failed if i didnt also do Yaeger CRAM. i dont know what your study material is but perhaps that would be a good addition?

Your post is so true. When I was preparing for the Audit section, in the beginning of my preparations, I thought I would never pass because it was so boring. However, when I did MCq repeatedly and learned from the wrong answer choices, there was a point when everything automatically started to sink in and I felt so confident on the test day

InactiveAll very good posts….thank you. I've just logged on to NASBA and re-applied.
I took the Becker Review course (in it's entirety) and switched to Yaegar last Fall. I sat in on their CRAM in January which is what probably helped get me to the 74 again.
Leebird…you hit the nail on the head…as I read your post….I began mentally answering your questions…..no, no, no, didn't do that, no, no……………and there's my answer…..
I'm glad I'm a member of this website! Thanks for smacking me upside the head everyone!!!
