again, I feel blindsided

90% of my audit exam was from roughly 30-40 pages of the becker book. The remaining 450 pages were barely touched on.

bloody ****ing fantastic. Great if you know the material inside/out, a goddamn nightmare if you only had a somewhat basic knowledge of it. REG was like this too.

why do I even waste my time with these review materials, I’d probably do better just taking it without studying.

edit: this was for my audit exam, I forgot to specify the section because I was in such a rage when making this thread

Huh – thats interesting. I thought Becker was great preparation for Audit. I forget which section it was, but one of my tests was how you described. It was heavily tested on like one or two chapters of Becker and the rest was barely on the exam.

I do, however, believe the CPA Exam should expect you to have more than “a somewhat basic knowledge” of the material. That's the whole point of an advanced degree or designation, right? Its to show that you are an expert of the material.

I see you haven't taken FAR yet, so I figured I'd warn you it happens there, too. On my exam yesterday, I got tons of questions from just a few modules and little to no questions from the rest. Sorry this happened to you, too. I'm surprised the AICPA doesn't do a better job of allocating the questions to cover a larger range of topics.

its my fault for not understanding some core concepts I guess

The same thing happened for me on my last attempt at REG concerning 90% of the test being on one subject… luckily I passed, but I was surprised. And I was really angry after I got out of the exam because I was sure that I had failed.

AUD completely blindsided me this time. I still don't get how I passed. Seriously think they may have mixed me up with someone else. Maybe this is a good sign for you!

I agree with apbandj. I have gotten exams like this and they make me mad too! I barely passed FAR because the MAJORITY of my test was over one topic that I was not 100% on. Now I am not mad that I did not know the material, that was my fault, but I was mad that the AICPA doesn't allocate correctly. This means had I had a solid understanding of just this topic I could have passed and that is not cool. Everyone should have to know a large majority of all of the topics.

    FAR- 75
    REG- 82
BEC- 73, 79!! Its over. Am I dreaming?

    I know right?

Just imagine that a test taker wasn't 100% sure on the relationship between risk of material misstatement and detection risk and this topic ended up comprising of 60% of his test.

Basically you are screwed because you can't remember the relationship too well. The test shouldn't be like that, it should allocate more properly.

That is precisely how I'm feeling about my REG experience on Sat. I spent so much time learning things I was lead to believe were heavily tested and got hit with 2 topics that comprised 90% of the damn exam. Of course one of those was a topic I'm entirely weak in and struggled with. That CSO is complete garbage.

sorry to hear about your test. Any chance you did better than you thought? I've heard countless times that people thought they bombed and ended up passing. My AUD exam is tomorrow at 1pm. Now I'm worried… 🙂

Also, you might have been the lucky one to get that skewed testlet. Every test is different right?

well let me tell you this jjm, there were barely any gimmey questions. My exam was hard right off the bat.

The first few on testlet 3 were fairly simple but my test was a serious mess. I wont lie to you, I found it extremely hard and I studied my ass off for it

There were two concepts I was iffy on before the test and it screwed me over. If through some miracle, I manage to get 65% of those questions correct, then I stand a chance of squeezing by with a 75 (but that wont happen). I predicted a 68 for REG and thats exactly what I got. I predict a 65 at best with audit.
