Advice for studying/taking Audit?

    Hey guys,

I just took FAR yesterday (first CPA exam experience) and had a terrible overall experience. I found to the multiple choice to be difficult, and the simulation to be flat-out impossible. The amount of guessing and filling in arbitrary numbers/journal entries I did for my simulation was outrageous. I seriously wanted to kill someone when my time expired. However, I am okay with the idea of repeating FAR, I know this a difficult test and I’m hoping I gain something from this experience should I have to sit for FAR again.

Now having said that, I am scheduled to take Audit on 7/21. I start studying tomorrow. I am using the Becker Self-Study material. I studied very hard for FAR, read through the book multiple times and worked as many problems as time permitted. But this preparation turned out to be insufficient based on yesterday’s experience.

So I wanted to know if anybody has any advice for studying for Audit with the Becker Self-Study (anything I should pay close attention too, any cautions with the lectures/book material, any studying habits that were successful) or if anybody

can shed some light on what I should expect with the Audit test?

Any comments are very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Make sure you understand A4. That was for me by far the toughest chapter in the book. It also helps to rewrite what Tim Gearty highlights in the book–it helps to solidify the concepts.

    REG (2/24/12) - 89
    AUD (4/5/12) - 89
    FAR (5/31/12) - 91
    BEC (7/7/12) - 84

Kudos for you!! Only two weeks for AUD!! I suggest TONS of MCQ. That goes for any test but especially for AUD. And make sure you know the basic outline of what goes into each audit report. Also, any of the mnemonics that are in your study material help. They can help you weed out wrong answers in the multiple choice.

    AUD 4/12/12 79
    FAR 5/29/12 76
    REG 8/2/12 82
    BEC 8/30/12 72 Retake 10/18/12 76!!! DONE!!!!

With the time you have before your exam, I highly suggest focusing on understanding the different reports, standard, modified unqualified, qualified, adverse, and disclaimer, and the reviews/comps (I think this is A1, A2). You absolutely must know these front and back. People will suggest you memorize the unqualified report word for word…no! Know the basics of each paragraph and what you modify for different events. Know these like the back of your hand, and the Audit Risk model and you'll be good to go.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂
