A UFO crashing into the test center…

That’s about the only thing that didn’t happen during AUD today.

First, there was the guy next to me talking to me b/c he was aggravated at my coughing (sorry–took as many meds as I dared, was sick over a month ago but the cough lingers). I was terrified I’d get in trouble, so I didn’t look at him, speak to him or anything. Had difficulty concentrating while trying to further suppress my cough.

Then the Prometric employee came in to take me out on an “unscheduled” break b/c my SWITCHED OFF phone was ringing in the locker (she said phones now switch themselves on if an alarm is set–who knew?). They asked me to take the battery out of my phone. Definitely leaving it in the car for REG.

Later, the power went off during a storm, and the entire center had to go on “unscheduled” break while they got the computers running again. Completely lost my focus standing around in the lobby for 15 minutes.

After returning from the power failure, I got not ONE, but two Microsoft .Net Framework error messages. I was unable to use the “back” button while searching the authoritative literature, which was very annoying!

Finally, the computer did not accept my final “exit”. I was just about to leave (the confirmation wouldn’t print). I had to put all of my stuff back in my locker, get re-checked in and try to “complete” the exam (though I already had). Except the computer screen was completely blank. So they had to sign me back out, fiddle around, sign me back in, sit me down at a different station just to login and log back out.

    Seriously.

So does anyone know…if you report problems like this and you failed, will you get any action? Conversely, will they take away a passing exam (the guy talking to me, the unscheduled “phone” break)? Is it silly to think I should be worried about data corruption or something similar with all of the technology issues?

While waiting to be checked back in after the power failure, I heard two Procenter employees talking about having server issues in the past week. They were joking about taking some piece of equipment out into the parking lot and running over it with one employee’s truck. I couldn’t hear exactly which piece of equipment it was, but it had to be a computer from the way they were talking, and it was like the next sentence after the comments about the server issues…

That sounds awful! I know you have so much time after an exam to report your experience. I have to go meet a client, yes on a Saturday and the first day off in months, but when I'm back I'll look it up for you. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I wouldn't worry about the guy in the next cubicle. He should have brought some ear plugs if he was that easily distracted. It's not as if you could help it!

I found this in the Candidate Bulletin at the AICPA's website.

After completing your examination, if you feel that the circumstances surrounding your test administration

prevented you from performing at a level consistent with your knowledge and skills; or, if you have a question

or concern about the test, you must notify NASBA at candidatecare@nasba.org no later than five business

days from the date of your examination to document your concern.

It looks like you still have a little time to report this. I do not have a clue what happens next. Good Luck to you!

Thanks, Kricket. Today, things seem far less dramatic. Funny how a decent night's sleep and a beautiful day (with no studying) can change your outlook! :o)

I saw that same thing (about 5 days for reporting) on the sheet they give you when you leave, but I was concerned about reporting it, too. I mean, is it possible that if I passed and reported it they might look at all the irregularities and throw it out? I guess I want my cake and eat it, too–a complaint if I failed but not too much scrutiny if I passed!

Just wondered if anyone has had ANY experience with reporting a testing center problem and the results of such complaint????

From what I've heard, if you report valid problems, the most they will do is offer you a free retake and cancelation of your first test if you so choose…..

Obviously they wouldn't tell you your score first so you have to decide if you think you for sure failed then take the retake but if not it's probably not worth it.

Hey marks, thanks. Where did you hear that? From someone who actually complained?

See, that's what I'm afraid of…I feel like I have no idea how I did. My first AUD seemed pretty easy, and I know I did really well on the sims, but I had left some MCQ's unanswered by mistake (despite warnings, etc.–I'm an idiot, what can I say). This one was definitely harder. My sims were harder, and I just don't know how I did on them. I guess I do NOT think I failed for sure, but it's a definite possibility.

Way to go on your REG score! After two surprising successes, I guess I was getting a little over-confident. I don't know how I did with AUD, and now I'm starting to get a little worried about REG!

I had a bad experience at prometric (another candidate loudly intimiadating the staff and threatening to excrement at his wok station…his tirade went on for an hour). I submitted a formal complaint but never heard back or was offered any remediation. I didn't follow up though.

rgibson3rd: That sounds horrible! I can't believe they didn't get back to you. Did you pass that one? I guess I'm going to call and see what they say…

Thanks for giving me your experience. Looks like you've passed everything–congrats! :o)

I need everything perfect on exam day.

I even make sure that I avoid breakfast so I have that “slightly hungry” and “on edge” feeling.

So for all of that which you mentioned to have happened to me on exam day, I probably would have had a nervous breakdown.

@latenight: lol..are you being serious or just pokin' fun at me? Do you really like to feel “slightly hungry”? That's great! I've been focusing on eating a healthy breakfast (something I don't normally do)! Maybe I'm taking the wrong tack here.

I'm being serious. Not poking fun. 🙂

Also, I wanted to lessen the chances that I'd have to use the restroom during the exam. Passing on breakfast helped. Didn't use the restroom at all. If you take a break between testlets, your time is still running. I need every advantage I can get lol.

@latenight: Yeah, that time running during break thing is especially painful when the bathroom is waaaay down three different hallways from the Prometric office/exam rooms. I always come back out of breath after TEARING down the hallways there and back. :o)

FWIW…I found out from NASBA that SUPPOSEDLY, you can report the circumstances, get an investigation, and if the AICPA finds you were at an unfair disadvantage, get 30 days to make a decision on whether or not you want a free re-take. What this means is that you can generally wait until you get your score back to decide IF they declare you have grounds for a re-take. The lady at NASBA told me this is the very first testing window in which you can wait and see your score first (lucky me). I'd told her that I'd heard on a forum that you couldn't see your score before deciding on the re-take.

I sure hope that's the case!!! She also told me that if you want to do your re-take in the same testing window, you won't be able to wait for your score. She said the investigations usually take about a week or so, and that it shouldn't hold up reporting on my score. I'd like to have my score before I sit for REG, which I'm taking about a week after my AUD score was due to come back. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for listening, y'all! I was a raving lunatic after I left that day (some might say that's no different than any other day <lol>).
