3 weeks enough for AUD? (no work)

    Hi everyone,

I don’t start work till October 2 and have been doing nothing but studying for the past week, and same goes for the next two weeks before I start. I recently moved to a major city and underestimated how far in advance the test dates fill up. All 5 test centers in close proximity to me have completely filled up for every single weekend date in the October/November window.

There is still an open date on October 1, the Tuesday right before I start. Based on people’s experiences with AUD, does anyone think this is enough time if you’re doing nothing but studying 10 hours a day? This is my last test, and I’d really like to get it done before work kicks in. Also I don’t want to be that person who asks for a day off his 2nd or 3rd week on the job to take it on a weekday. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Do you have any real-world audit experience? How do you feel after one full-time week of studying?

Can you give yourself 4 or so days at the end to be in review more (not still learning? )? I think it's doable ! But obviously after another week you might not feel prepared and willing to throw money away on a failed exam.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

I have no audit experience currently. AUD seems like a foreign language to me right now. I know people view this as an easier test but I seem to be having more difficulty with it than the other 3 (also I'm a bit curious why people consider this one easier lol). I could definitely leave 4 days for review, just worried that won't be enough. Studying for this is really making me miss FAR and BEC, I didn't think that was possible haha

I feel like learning audit is uses more of your verbal skills while learning FAR and BEC(minus essay) use more quantitative skills.

I am having trouble with aud, but there isn't that much info compared to the other tests, i think you can easily do it in 2-3 weeks.

Def doable. I think AUD is the most straightforward exam. What I mean is that the concepts and lectures should build upon each lecture/chapter. It's pretty much the whole auditing cycle + some standards. It's very conceptual but I think you have a good chance to knock it out before work! If you've settled down and got a good awareness of your surroundings (don't get lost getting to work on day 1 hehe), you can dedicate most of your spare time in passing the exam. Good luck.

    Becker
    AUD: 98 (4/13)
    BEC: 84 (5/13)
    FAR: 91 (7/13)
    REG: 91 (8/13)

Yes it is definitely doable. Just execute your study plans and do a lot of MCQs. I took FAR on Aug 7 then immediately started studying for AUD which I took on Aug 29. Passed both on first try. I don't have any audit experience and all the material seemed like a foreign language to me. I used Becker study materials and NINJA audio which really reinforces what Becker teaches you. Did I mention I have two boys who are 2 and 3 and also am 8 months pregnant while working at a tax firm. So if I can do it, you definitely can!! I studied pretty much every night from 10pm to 2am.

    Good Luck to you!!

    FAR: 77 (08/07/13)
    AUD: 78 (08/29/13)
    REG: 76 (11/07/13)
    BEC: 79 (12/06/13)
    Ethics: 98%

    Application sent 12/31/13

    Used Becker Self-Study

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I'm one of the few people who views the conceptual stuff as a bad thing, I had no problems with spending 3 weeks on FAR but AUD seems like a total nightmare. @PJJW – this test is hard enough with no job and no family, much respect to people passing this test with both!!

Yes, without a doubt it is doable. I just did it. I took my college audit classes (I and II) in 2000. Have not done a lick with Audit since (other than being the point man at the companies I've worked for being audited). Studied for three weeks, and received an 83. I am a numbers person and was stressing big time during my AUD studying, since there are virtually NO numbers. Just review the material solidly the first time. Move on to the next chapter once you feel you've grasped it. Leave yourself about 3-4 days for final review, just to go over your notes and highlights. I actually finished the exam with over an hour to spare … thought I nailed it, but then you start second guessing yourself. Point being: if you can pass FAR, you can pass audit … easiest exam of the 4 in my opinion.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

I think 3 weeks of studying full time is enough to pass any exam. 21 days at 7 hours of efficient studying is 147 hours. I work full time and usually manage to get 3 or so hours in a day. More than enough IMHO. I've got audit scheduled for October 5th. I've watched the lectures and made notes through 5 of the 6 Becker sections. I plan on finishing up the notes today, then spending the next two weeks review said notes and cranking out multiple choice questions. I've used a similar strategy for BEC and FAR. Always feel slightly underprepared but I've scored in the upper 80s both times. Studying over much longer of a period and I think you start seeing negative results. Good luck.

    FAR - 84
    BEC - 89
    AUD - 93
    REG - 87
