2 Tests, 2 Fails

So I have taken FAR and AUD and failed both with 72 and 73. I knew I failed FAR when I took it. I thought I passed AUD even though I had problems with sims. Very disappointing. I will retake FAR in Jan and AUD in late February hopefully. I have been using Wiley book and test bank only. Should I just continue with what I have or should I get a review course like Yaeger, Roger, or Becker? Should I get newer book and test bank for 2012? Funds are tight but I don’t want to fail again. I do have an infant at home so maybe a DVD lecture would help. Any other advice?

As far as I know, 2011 material should be good for the first window of 2012.

As for the materials, it seems that you are close to passing both, you can try Yaeger CRAM. I bought it for FAR and it helped me. Of course I failed with a 74. Anyways, they use Wiley books so you wouldn't have to invest in more books.

Go to their website and watch the demo…

    Good Luck!!!

you are on the right track…. no need to change your review material…. space out your exams and stop taking them so close….Few has done it and pass but consider that we are not all made equal

Albinodragon – sorry to hear that.. I know how you feel so close. I would say follow your plan since you were only 2 & 3 points away. Jan/Feb window will be passing scores for both of those exams.. Good Luck!

Next window you'll have two passes.

I am also using Wiley book and test bank. I'd totally recommend getting Wiley focus notes for Audit – they are really good. The ones for FAR are helpful for some of the topics.

Just keep studying and you'll pass. No need to buy other review courses.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I will check out the Cram and Focus Notes. I feel like I was somewhat strong on mc questions but not on simulations. I didn't quite feel prepared for the simulations. Does the Cram go through simulation examples?

I heard that the first and second test windows are on the prior year (2011). Not sure but that's what the cpa review course guy told me.

@albinodragon: The majority of what you learn by doing sims during your review is those specific sims and the format of the sim (clicking around and such). Your best bet to nail sims ironically has nothing to do with practicing sims. The sims are based on material, and you have such a small chance of seeing a sim on your exam that you actually saw in practice that it would be foolish to think otherwise. If you're struggling with sims and failing exams because of that, you need to study harder and reallly focus on learning and understanding the material.

Full disclosure: I have worked maybe 2-3 sims for each section I took and my scores have been good. Each sim is different and asks for knowledge in a different way. Succeeding on the sims is more of a factor of how well you understand and can apply knowledge rather than if you can recall information (like MC's). Good luck!
