What does a passing score feel like?

As many of us know, today might be “the day.” I’m extremely nervous and have been, well, since I took my test. I failed FAR with a 72, but I know exactly what areas I need to work on. So I’m quite confident once I have those subjects down, I’ll have no trouble passing that beast.

Auditing was different. I changed the way I studied and how I approached things. I keep going over things in my head and I don’t think there is anything I could have done differently. I graduated last December and retained my student working position and will be kicked out the door shortly after the end of the semester, which is next month. With unemployment creeping up, I need a passing score so I can start applying to every firm in the area. I really don’t want to work at Walmart.

For those of you who have passed AUD, how did you feel after you took the test. I’m feeling like it could go either way, but I really don’t want to get my hopes up. The questions I remembered and checked, I know I got right. I’ve read so many posts where people have felt like they passed and ended up bombing.

Essentially, what I am asking is what does passing feel like?

I honestly left AUD (my first exam) feeling emotionless. I thought I nailed the MCQ's and they got harder as I went.. but the SIMS were a totally different story. I had some really tough ones and I didn't think I did very well on them at all. As you can see.. I must have done alright. In all the tests I've taken I never know how to gauge my performance after a test, sometimes I feel like I nailed it and did, or sometimes I feel like I failed with flying colors and came out quite the opposite.

    It's kinda like…

“Gonna find my baby. Gonna hold her tight. Gonna grab some afternoon delight.

My motto's always been when it's right, it's right

Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?

When everything's a little clearer in the light of day

AND we know the night is always gonna be there any way.”

    That's what it feels like.

Like Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johannsen and Carrie Keegan feeding you grapes and champagne in their birthday suits.

@Gator, I would be terrified at that, but I am a straight female. I'd rather have a lunch date with Hugh Jackman. I guess I should have defined it better in my question…

What did you feel like after the test and before you received a passing score. Where you confident that you passed? Did you feel like you bombed it?

If I pass, I'd like to swivel around in my chair and tell my boss “I quit!” And then sashay out the door and to the nearest accounting firm.

My 3rd go at AUD (the one I ultimately passed) I left devastated and in tears. SO upset in fact that I forgot my license at prometric. I went home and looked up a bunch of questions and found I got them wrong. I started studying again that very night. Was SHOCKED that I ended up with an 84!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

@jnnthom sorry about that. No one got my reference, or at least pointed it out yet šŸ™

In answer to your REAL question. I have taken the exam 8 times. There was only 1 time that I walked out and thought I nailed it and passed (FAR – 79).

The other 7 times, including the one I'm waiting on now I feel like it could go either way. I've had to take REG 4 times (waiting on number 4) and I honestly have no idea. I felt really good after I took it, but now today I'm feeling as nervous as ever.

Time will tell. Everyone I've talked to comes out of the exam saying “I think I failed” and sometimes they fail other times they pass. This exam is a bloody crap shoot, a lot of luck involved.

May the odds be ever in your favor!

It feels unbelievable when you pass your first one. It's such a motivator and it makes you think you can pass the next three easily. But after passing the first one, it really depends on your situation. For me, I took Audit 2nd and I actually failed it. I took REG third and thought I failed it but when I checked my score I got a 86 and it was so shocking more than anything. I re-took Audit next and to be honest, I thought I had done enough to pass it the first time, so my standards were so high for my second one and I felt I passed again and I did. So overall that didn't really give me as much joy as it could because its like I felt I already passed the first time. It was more like bitter sweet revenge. And when I passed BEC, it was like a release. Whenever I have a bad day at work now or some personal issues, I always remind myself that I passed the 4 CPA Exams and the scores are never going to go away and it boosts my spirits.

    Gotcha šŸ™‚

I felt confident when I passed REG … so when I got my score I was like, ok, good.

With BEC, I was a little less confident … and then started thinking about the grading process and how abstract it really is. Throwing out 20% pretest questions … weighing some more than others … etc. I honestly say, “I could have gotten a 55, I could have gotten a 90.” I have no clue
