The first time I took the auditing exam, I studied pretty hard for 3 months and did all Wiley Mcqs and some Wiley test bank questions and scoring around 75%-80%. I ended up scoring 74, just missed passing (stronger Mcqs, but weak TBS). Next time around I didn’t want to leave anything to chance and I wanted to do ALL Wiley book questions and ALL test bank questions, and make sure this time I did all TBS. Studied for about 2 months at the library to really lock down on studying. I was scoring a solid 90%-95% on everything, I was feeling confident.

    Test day

After taking the exam the second time I felt like it was tricky, but felt like I caught those questions in the mcq. I finished the test on time, and got 2 research questions which took me a while but found them both word for word. I left the exam like I did OK. I would be surprised if I didn’t passed.

As the exam timed out my screen went complete blank, a white screen. I went to the proctor and he said he never received my test through his end. He refreshed his screen but no luck. So he went back to my computer and reseted it, reassuring me that everything was ok and all of my test answers are saved on their servers. We tried it again and still no luck, my exam was still not showing up transmitted on his computer. Since my computer was having problems, he logged on to another computer and typed in my launch code, and it finally showed up on the proctors computer as transferred.

Fast forward to this morning and I received my score, a 59!!! This is not a typo a 59. This is a score of somebody who didn’t study. My jaw dropped to say the least. I studied reg for one month and I got a 67, missing a lot of questions. I understand that sometimes feeling good about the test is not indicative of a passing score since the exam is adaptive but c’mon a 59?!!!! I dunno what to do. Should I call prometric, or the boards of California. I have no idea. I know from lurking on online CPA boards that protesting is of no use, but I am sure this is an error. So if ANYBODY has advice please comment and let me know how to go about this matter. To make this matter worse I already passed REG with an 80 and time is ticking for me. It expires 10/14 but you guys know how time flies. Thank you for hearing me out and any suggestion would be much appreciated.

@san Just got off with Prometric Care center and she said that my exam did in fact transfer correctly. Just emailed NASBA and just waiting for a reply. I think this is a lost cause. I just have to regroup and study my butt off. My 59 does not make any sense since I always improved after a retake, but I just have to move on and plug forward.

By the way has anyone heard of someone dropping 15 points after a retake?!!! Just curious…

Definitely call AICPA and explain what happened. Maybe they can tell you if some answers came through blank. realistically though, about the only thing AICPA may do is grant you a free retake and they will probably only do that if Prometric confirms that there was a computer error during your exam.

I also feel very annoyed by taking like millions survey questions at the end of the exam…. I felt dizzy already when I finished my exam and definitely not in the mood of looking that monitor any further…

    FAR... Passed
Audit... Passed on the second try
    Reg.... Passed
    BEC... Passed

@jternida1 Did AICPA ever get back to you? Similar thing happened to me last week when i took AUD. I'm also CA candidate. The test center mentioned that the computer that i took AUD has problem with other candidates who take CPA exam before 🙁

    BEC - 10/1/13 PASS
    REG - 12/6/13 PASS
    FAR - 1/21/14 PASS
    AUD - 2/27/14 PASS

My favorite questionnaire question is the one where they ask if you experienced any technical difficulties during the exam, when we all know that most people who experience technical difficulties never get a chance to answer the survey.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't believe that I had really dropped that much. Look, it's possible that you're in denial and you really did just get worse at this – but it defies logic, given that you were studying all this time.

But I would put money on you never getting anyone to admit that chunks of your exam were missing. I would have laughed outloud at whoever told you that the information transferred correctly from Prometric. What a meaningless statement. All it implies is that they didn't get an error message while transmitting whatever information had saved – it says nothing about the fact that half your exam was probably missing prior to the transfer.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99

    @studyforcpa2014

The board wasn't much help when I called so I just decided to give up and restudy. I feel like I'm just going to waste my money and time. Congrats by the way, you got your life back! Planning to retake audit around April or May depending on my BEC result. Any tips you can offer to get through aud? I have to finish before October. Right now using roger, wiley test bank, and ninja flashcards

@jternida1 I had the exact same experience and received the exact same grade…only with FAR, and in RI. I've passed 2 sections so far, and the lowest failing grade I've received was a 71. So even though I didn't feel great leaving the exam (although I always feel like I failed walking out of every single exam so far), a 59 after 2 months of studying seemed ridiculous.

Anyway, exactly the same experience – it went to the white screen, no survey or anything else. The proctor said something along the lines of “they've been having some issues” (I assume meaning NASBA)… I didn't even contact them because I can't imagine they would admit wrong doing if that was the case, it would open up a whole can of worms for them with previous scores etc.
