The first time I took the auditing exam, I studied pretty hard for 3 months and did all Wiley Mcqs and some Wiley test bank questions and scoring around 75%-80%. I ended up scoring 74, just missed passing (stronger Mcqs, but weak TBS). Next time around I didn’t want to leave anything to chance and I wanted to do ALL Wiley book questions and ALL test bank questions, and make sure this time I did all TBS. Studied for about 2 months at the library to really lock down on studying. I was scoring a solid 90%-95% on everything, I was feeling confident.

    Test day

After taking the exam the second time I felt like it was tricky, but felt like I caught those questions in the mcq. I finished the test on time, and got 2 research questions which took me a while but found them both word for word. I left the exam like I did OK. I would be surprised if I didn’t passed.

As the exam timed out my screen went complete blank, a white screen. I went to the proctor and he said he never received my test through his end. He refreshed his screen but no luck. So he went back to my computer and reseted it, reassuring me that everything was ok and all of my test answers are saved on their servers. We tried it again and still no luck, my exam was still not showing up transmitted on his computer. Since my computer was having problems, he logged on to another computer and typed in my launch code, and it finally showed up on the proctors computer as transferred.

Fast forward to this morning and I received my score, a 59!!! This is not a typo a 59. This is a score of somebody who didn’t study. My jaw dropped to say the least. I studied reg for one month and I got a 67, missing a lot of questions. I understand that sometimes feeling good about the test is not indicative of a passing score since the exam is adaptive but c’mon a 59?!!!! I dunno what to do. Should I call prometric, or the boards of California. I have no idea. I know from lurking on online CPA boards that protesting is of no use, but I am sure this is an error. So if ANYBODY has advice please comment and let me know how to go about this matter. To make this matter worse I already passed REG with an 80 and time is ticking for me. It expires 10/14 but you guys know how time flies. Thank you for hearing me out and any suggestion would be much appreciated.

    AUD: 74, 67, 76!
    BEC: 70, 75!
    FAR: 76!
    REG: 67, 73, 79!

@runnerup, it happened to me as well once but to make long story short, once you exit the testlet it saved now, when time ends in normal sequence the whole exam is saved and when you get the confirmation letter from prometric means your exam has been received and will be transmitted to NASBA,,,

but I read a case where a student had problem with computer while doing MCQ's not SIMS yet then they changed the computer in the middle, after launching code the exam took him directly to SIMS escaped the undone MCQ's part,,,but even in this worst case he got free rescheduling of his exam only,,,as both prometric and NASBA can't do anything about it, its just bad luck,,,

I also have an opinion that in as much as computer and a little bit of human is involved in the CPA exams grading , there is always bound to be an error such as inadvertently allocating someone's results to a different candidate.

No system can achieve absolute perfection but it looks like the AICPA seems to think that everything they do is perfect.

    REG -63│ 84!!
    BEC- 59│70│ 71 │78!
    AUD- 75!
    FAR- 87!

@jternida1 OMG I feel really bad for you. I hope that this was an error on the AICPA side. There is no way to find out because we sign away our rights when we agree to the rules. I doubt they will ever admit to any error (liability is too high) because they will have to review all other tests. So complain and I bet you will pass your next attempt. I have noticed a trend when I take a test and feel I know the answers I fail with no explanation then I complain. Then guess what I pass the retake how I dont know. Because I can almost tell you which answers I answered incorrectly. We are human we all make errors and the AICPA probably makes a tonne of errors.

I hope all goes well for you.

You probably should have had the proctor sign a statement of what happened and reported it to AICPA ( or who ever you're supposed to tell) . At least you could have had the option of taking the score or taking the test again. 59 is definitely an insult. The proctor should have reported the screen timing out as well. But they won't anything if you don't know to tell them to call someone or report the computer problem. Sometimes I wonder where do they get these people to work. If you ask a questions, they act like you are asking for the answer to the test…..go figure.

    It begins with a 75

I had a very similar experience with Financial. I studied so hard got in 80-90% on most of my practice tests and when I took the exam it was going well. I felt the test get much harder and trickier but I was able to solve the multiple choice correctly. I had studied the material very well. Also, 4 of the 7 sims I know I got 100% correct and the other 3 at least 50%. So once I finished my test same thing happened. They couldn't find my test it wouldn't show that I was done. They restarted my computer and took over 20 minutes to get my confirmation printed. The guy kept doing stuff on his end of the computer. The guy said its ok nothing happened but I was so worried my exam didn't get recorded. When I left I was so sure I passed. I never felt doing this well on a test. When I got my score it was 69!!! Weaker on sims and weaker on most of the MC. I was so sure something happened and my test got lost or not recorded. There was no way I got 69. I had taken FAR about a few months ago I barely studied and I guessed most of the questions and I got a 68 that time. It just didn't make sense to me and I know it's not worth it to protest since they won't do anything. I'm from California as well. It is just veryyyyy strange to me that this happened. I know when I bomb an exam and this time I knew I did really well.

Did you all test at the same Prometric center, maybe on the same computer? You should post the location.

Jter – I would first contact the AICPA, and tell them what happened at the testing center. Ask them to pull your exam up to verify all MCQ's and SIMs had answers. I would assume they could do this to determine if there was an error without paying the fee to regrade, since you are not asking them to regrade the exam. I just do not trust Prometric with my information, and the AICPA may be able to help with the State Board.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!
