First off, congrats to those who passed a section (or who passed the whole darned thing!). I also passed BEC this quarter so I’m back to two parts passed with AUD and REG to go.

However, I also failed AUD this quarter with a 71. I used Wiley TB and book. I read the book cover to cover and did the entire WTB. I felt like I knew the material super well and was confident going into the exam. I told myself, “you know this stuff sooo much better than you last time and you were only five points away.” Maybe this thinking was flawed, but I legitimately thought I had this.

My plan of attack for my “fifth” retake is to get Ninja MCQ and drill those along with doing flashcards and writing notes on MCQ I get wrong. Is there something else I need to be doing? I haven’t gotten my score report in yet. Should I only focus on the areas I was weaker and/or comparable in? Any advice would be really awesome. I want to be done with these exam by the end of 2017.

I can relate. I finally passed AUD after my 4th try, with a 77 (failed with a 68, 74, and 66 before if that matters). This past time, I studied from AUG 19th until Sept. 9th and took the exam Sept. 10th. I used Wiley as well, and hammered out MCQ. If I missed a question in the past I would quickly move on and not worry about it, but this past time I looked up info in the book on why/how that's the answer (as Wiley MCQ's do not give great reasons why the answer is wrong or why the answer is right). I'd also make sure that you practice SIMs, I think that may have been what put me over the hump this time. I dedicated a lot more time on them this time around than in my previous attempts.

In my personal opinion, you probably have a good idea of what your strong areas already are, so I would spend more time on the information that you are struggling with and get that down, then rehash everything (including what you think you have down) the days leading up to the exam. That's how I handled AUD, which could be why it took me 4 tries. Regardless, good luck!

I definitely need to spend more time on SIMs this time around. It's been over a year since I passed FAR and a lot of that stuff can be tested on the AUD SIMs too. I'm gonna grind MCQ, SIMs, and flashcards. I'm also going to use Google docs to type out answers that I get wrong and why.

I noticed that you did a pretty quick retake (about three weeks). I haven't studied AUD since July 2017 so I might take four weeks to review. You think that will be enough? How many MCQ and SIMs would you do per day?

    Thank you

MCQ (and notes) is a good plan of attack. Keep an eye on that learning curve.

The other thing that people should keep in mind – these exams have a variance. If someone is borderline like me, what are the chances that a person who on average can get a 75, actually does get a 75? The variance in the exams could take it over or under. So one has to try to be a bit over.

Let the Ninja MCQ tell you what your weak areas are – it has excellent analytics if you really use it correctly. I like to do 30 question sets. Most sessions are “all” questions but every 3rd or 4th set I focus on weak areas (still 30 questions). It's amazing how much the learning curve is impacted by that.

Do more sims. I'm also someone who struggled with AUD. It's the only test I've failed more than once. I've gotten every score imaginable for that one. Stronger in MCQ and still fail because I got weaker in sims. The time I finally passed I got comparable in sims. Use the Ninja MCQ and also do as many of it's sims as possible.

Yeah, three weeks was my sweet spot for whatever reason. Passed FAR right out of busy season (2nd try) studying from around April 15th to May 5th (NTS was expiring).

I took AUD previous to this past attempt May 31st and didn't look at anything over the summer (as I was awaiting both FAR & AUD), so I would say 4 weeks should be enough time. I'd say on average I would do about 200-300 MCQ a day (similar amount on weekends) and would normally focus on SIMS on the weekends, do somewhere between 20-30 across the weekend in between MCQ's. Sitting down and practicing the SIMs were brutal for me, but I knew I needed to do it to end up passing.
