Need some advice regarding AUD

Hi all, so I am in the process of studying for audit on Becker. I have gotten through the first 3 chapters and have retained an awful lot. I got to part 4, and I understand a good chunk of it, but am really struggling with remembering all of the ratios (I am going to move on to chapter 5 tomorrow and return to this later on). I am wondering, for those of you that have taken audit (without disclosing any information)…are the ratios heavily tested on the exam? Is this something I need to be seriously worried about and should put the time in? I am definitely going to come back to it, but I am trying to get through all 6 chapters by this weekend to leave myself a week to review and go over areas I struggle in. Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Hi Dustin. Im currently studying for Audit and I strongly believe that ratios are important since they are a crucial part of analytical procedures. Im not sure if they are heavily tested but they could even come in a simulation. Based on your post, it seems like Audit is the first part you are studying for and if you nail the ratios now they will be helpful for FAR as well. I truly suggest you study those ratios very well. Good luck!

I think in the Blitz videos Jeff has 6 ratios that he says if you must learn any those are the ones to learn. I cant remember what they are. He is very generous at times where he will give access to the Ninja Blitz for free to subscribers and I think he also does that with challenges he does. And other times he just gives free access because he is a nice guy. So, if you are not an email subscriber I suggest that you become one, since some stuff he only sends in emails and does not post on the site.

When you are going through the SIMS I would definitely pay attention to some of the ones you keep seeing in your practice SIMS. I just write them out each night before going to bed. And that, surprisingly helped them stick. Another one of Jeff's little tricks about writing things out.

    AUD - 73, 72 retake 7/2/2016
    BEC - 8/20/2016
    REG - TBD
    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ratios. In my opinion, they definitely aren't a make or break part of the exam and I really didn't spend much time on them. More likely than not, they aren't going to throw the really obscure ratios that are only for a very specific type of situation. They would likely test you on some of the most commonly used ones (AR Turnover, Inventory Turnover, Current Ratio) just to be sure you know the basics.

I would agree with Jeff that knowing 6 of the ratios should be good enough. If in doubt about a certain ratio on a simulation, you may be able to get lucky and find it in the Authoritative Literature.

I would second what Hawks said, it's not going to be make or break material. Becker devotes no lecture and has maybe a dozen practice MCQ's for the ratios, so the odds you'll see any questions are pretty low. If you're looking to prioritize your time there are a lot of bigger fish to fry.
