Hey all,

Hope everyone is doing well and is satisfied with their results from the recent score releases. I wanted to get on this forum and ask all advice that have passed the audit section of the CPA exam. Currently i have completed REG and BEC by studying Becker review course. I am on an aggressive path to complete Audit and Financial by August this year because I will be starting law school. my questions are:

1. Any tips on retaining all of the knowledge as it seems extremely less math intensive and i kinda favor the math!
2. Any chapters in becker that are so called “less” important for Audit part?
3. Just in general any advice/tips that might help.

The math is virtually zero on Audit. The extent may be calculating a ratio or two. Sampling calculations are rarely tested (just the concepts).

I favor conceptual questions over math ones because half the battle is memorization. Once you've memorized the answers, as you re-do the questions you start to understand how they relate to one another. Once you understand that you're able to answer a question that's being asked in a different way, because essentially the answer is the same but the question is different. For AUD I would suggest MCQs, MCQs and more MCQs. I didn't practice any sims during my review. I'm sure there are people who would disagree with me on that, but that was my personal experience. I reworked the MCQs 5-10 times per section. Eventually things started to make sense. I would suggest rewriting the reports and reworking the questions as many times as time allows. I agree with Benjamin regarding his comment on sampling calculations- however like he said I did have conceptual questions on the topic.

Based on my experience, accountants lead very busy lives; whether they are full-time students or professionals. As such, they tend to procrastinate a little; mixed in with the fact that these exams are no easy cake. Basically, what I am trying to say is that you shouldn't cut corners and take the time to study EVERYTHING. I took Audit today and I can reasonably assure (no pun intended) you that I saw a little bit of everything. My exam had tons of easy questions in those sections that everyone swears that you shouldn't waste time on. Conclusion, make sure to put in the time and study everything because everything is fair game. For the CPA exam, it is better to know a little bit about everything than a lot about few things. If something is giving you a lot of trouble, move on. It is very unlikely that the actual exam will cover all the little gritty details that your study materials want to hammer into your head.
