Why does my firm require all CPAs to be AICPA members?

I am not a fan of the AICPA, their steep dues, their shady CGMA certification or the “discounted” CPE they offer with membership. Great, they lobby for me in Washington D.C….big whoop.

I dug my heels in the ground and didn’t renew this year. My firm contacted me and told me it was required and “Unfortunately, all Partners and licensed CPA External Client Servers are required to become members of the AICPA in order to retain the Firm’s membership status in the Center for Audit Quality.”

    I’m a Tax Senior……Audit quality?????!!!

@smith Quoting Minimorty on the second page of this thread “The AICPA needs to be embraced as an ally, not as an enemy. I think far too few people realize that a big reason the CPA license is valuable is because of the marketing and lobbying efforts put forth by the AICPA. Just about every household in the US and many abroad know about and respect the CPA designation. This is due to years and years of marketing by the AICPA. The AICPA also does a tremendous amount of lobbying, trying to protect the interests of its members by making sure legislation is not passed that would be detrimental to our ability to make a living. These types of things take money. A lot of money. Just remember that we are still beneficiaries of a lot of their efforts.”

There is some good discussion on this thread as I have quoted above.
