What are you guy planning on doing after completing CPA exams?

I am doing IT Audit, so I am not going to do any business-related study any more. My next goal is to do CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). It usually takes 3~9 months to pass CISSP exam. I will give it 3 months, and see if I can pass the exam. I can’t do long, intense study like CPA any more lol

Also, I am going to learn chinese as my wife is chinese – she speaks english. no problem there. but I need to communicate with parents in law who only speak Chinese (Mandarin, and Shanghainese).

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

I'm going into IT audit as well, so I was thinking about taking the CISA next summer. I don't know much about the CISSP

yea, CISA is pretty much like a standard certification for IT auditors. I completed CISA exam in 2011, but still waiting for 5 years work experience requirements – will get certified next year.

I heard that CISSP is comparable to CISM, but more in depth.

Good luck on your CISSP Exam Kay! I'm looking for macc programs to attend and a job. My fiance's parents also only speak Korean so I'm studying to brush up on my formal Korean speaking, writing, and listening skills. Rocketlanguages.com every morning!! 🙂

Thank you Phillip. I am Korean so my wife is working on her Korean study to communicate with my parents too lol

I never heard of Rocketlanguages.com. Is it effective when learning new language?

I ordered chinese conversation and grammar books from Korea. As soon as I receive them, I will start studying. Also, there is CSL (Chinese as Second Language) program starting in September, so I am going to take that program too lol

duolingo.com is a great, free language learning website that I learned about recently…but doesn't have Chinese or Korean.

After I finish the exams, I will be thrilled to say that I never again have to study for my career! Just attend a few seminars for CPE. 😉 And, once I don't *have* to learn, I want to learn at least a second language (hence why I'm keeping track of that website) and guitar, and I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time in my garden. 🙂

Career-wise, time will tell whether there's a change or not. I am working for an accountant already, and would happily keep this job, but at the moment the pay is quite low and I'm not sure if that is a situation that will be remedied or not. However, I work in small-town, small-firm public accounting and would like to stay in this part of the industry as I've enjoyed it quite a bit.

I've been using rocketlanguages for about a week now and I enjoy it. The lessons seem to be on stuff that you can apply immediately and they get straight to the point and the explanations are clear. For an online program I think its great, and it explains the differences between the formal and informal languages, and why and when each should be used. For me it has really helped with my pronunciation bc the listening section includes a script so I've realized I've been leaving many syllables out when I speak formally. Btw, I am not an employee of rocketlanguages lol.

I do not have the willpower to go back to school and get a JD. After the CPA exam, I see myself laying on the beach with an ice chest full of beer for a whole week!!!
