I used Ninja all the way for the CPA exams. I took a new job as a financial reporting analyst at a huge investment company. I think doing the CFA exam would help educate me more about the finance world, and it would definitely help career path-wise.

Has anyone done this? Is there a good company for study materials that you would recommend? Certain studying strategies that you found helpful?

I remember thinking about taking the CFA exam at the beginning of my CPA exam process. Now that I am nearing the end of the CPA exams, I'd rather jump off a cliff than to continue studying for another massive set of exams!! Lol. But, having both a CPA and CFA is very rare and shows your dedication and high intelligence. I have a lot of respect for anyone who went through both the CPA and CFA – that's an insane accomplishment!

I think that the CFA really comes into play if you are looking to be a sell-side or buy-side analyst. I don't think it's something to pursue merely to “gain knowledge.” It is extremely rigorous and the few people that have both a CFA and CPA unanimously agree that the CFA is far more intensive. I have watched coworkers of mine flounder for years (minimum of 3 to pass) one being a very intelligent CPA that could not get passed level 2 and decided to hang it up. I always think of things in terms of final payout; will you a.) make a significant amount of money when it's all over, or b.) is it required for your job?. I would think really hard about what it is going to accomplish for you after the years of agony (unless you are someone who truly enjoys studying).

I think there are a few books that can give you a great financial foundation; Investment Banking by Rosenbaum; Valuation by Mckinsey & Co. and Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham are a few of the cornerstones that come to mind.
