Are you sure you need it? A lot of colleges wave GMAT if you passed CPA exams

How it compares to studying for the CPA exam = LOL.

People regularly walk into the GMAT without doing more than the most basic review to refresh themselves on the math formulas they learned in high school math.

You can grab a GMAT book from Amazon and self-study. No more than a month. If you find you're struggling, or you want to short-cut and have money handy, you can do GMAT classes in person or online. I've never taken one, but I'm pretty sure they're less than a week long.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99

I'm glad to see this thread since I'd like to take the GMAT at some point (I'm looking at an MBA program, and haven't seen any reference to waving it for CPAs) but know very little about it. I've always heard people talk with fear about master's entrance exams, so have been intimidated by the thought of the GMAT – nice to hear people saying it's really not that bad! I should try to find a practice GMAT to take without any prep to help convince myself that it's not that bad. 🙂

I am looking at Rice here in Houston and it appears no waiver.

I don't remember studying for the GMAT and I did well on it. I got a GMAT study guide from the library and skimmed through it to see what type of things were going to be on it, but I don't recall actually “studying”.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

Ditto – I did not study for it and did fine. It tests pretty basic concepts. Logarithms tied me up a little since I didn't study, but everything else was straight forward. If you've been out of school for awhile it'd probably be good to review, but it definitely does not compare to the CPA exams.

Studying with Wiley Review, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja Audio.
    Retakes with Ninja MCQ only...awesome!

Getting a 700+ on GMAT is harder than passing the CPA exam imo. 700+ is what you need for top business schools typically.

I got the wiley book and reviewed the math section for a couple days. I didn't study anything for the verbal section or integrated reasoning. I scored plenty high. Just brush up on basic algebra and geometry and you should be good to go. Plus u get ur score right away so if u don't do good just reschedule. I think u can take it every month. It wasn't nearly as big a deal as the cpa exam. Most schools u r only going to need a 550 – 600 or so. Don't sweat it too much.

Jrosen, I graduated in 1986 (I know, a lot of people here hadn't been born yet). I had to study. I just got the Gleim book. I wound up with 699 (one point under my grad school's requirement) (but they let me in since my GPA was so high). I did find the test hard. Lots of higher math.

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

(Done in seven months - thank you Jesus!!)

@jrosen — Studied for 3 days while in my last semester of undergrad. MAcc from Texas A&M – CC

Based on your CPA scores you'll be fine. Go grab a college algebra book, brush up on grammar and punctuation, and make sure you're aware of the data sufficiency question format. I think it's the only exam in the world with those type of questions but I could be wrong on that.

I'll hardly know what to think to actually get a score right away! haha. I'll probably be taking the CMA exams before the GMAT, so I'll have had CPA with a 2-4 week wait, then CMA with a 6+ week wait, then to take the GMAT and know when I walk out the door how I did will be so weird but so awesome. I've taken other tests with instant scores, though it's been awhile, and it was always so nice to actually know how it went! (Especially since as soon as you finish a test, everyone asks you how you did/if you passed regardless of whether you have any way to know or not…) The school I'm looking at only requires a 450, so I'm sure I can attain that score without a problem, but I'm the type to want a higher score if possible so I'll be shooting for a 700 even though I only need a 450. 😛

The GMAT was a cakewalk compared to the CPA Exam. I think I “studied” for 2 weeks on my lunch break.

Is Rice not AACSB? They don't waive the gmat for a cpa pass? Really?
