Hello! I finally passed the CPA exam in May and am officially licensed. I currently work in Internal Audit, and am considering the CIA certification. I have heard that it’s beneficial to take the CIA right after the CPA exam since a lot of the material overlaps.

Now that the exam has gone from 4 to 3 parts, can anyone suggest a good 2013 review course? I used Becker for the CPA and loved it…but I’m clueless for the CIA.

    Good luck today K_Reib.

If I were to do it all over again I would have started with part 3!

Thanks! And thanks for the advice. Is there a time frame that you have to pass all 3 parts?

I think it is a few years. I know my study materials were good for 2 years but I am 90% sure you have 5 years to get it done.

Don't overthink this exam. In a previous life, I was an internal auditor for Big 4…the exam is a joke. Not just compared to the CPA, but period. Huge waste of time, I completely regret it. I actually never had time to “study” for part 3, walked in, passed it. I hate to see people stressing over this exam because of how remedial it is. However, my little disclaimer is that (and I've said it before) you know yourself best, so if you struggle with remedial concepts or are I guess a poor test taker, then you may want to study at a level you feel is appropriate to fit your own needs.

My steps to passing the exam:

Step 1) Go to Testing Center

    Step 2) Obtain CIA License

@Fi5hy, well they're nothing compared to my romance tactics (post-it flags, highlighters, and all), but they've done me alright! haha. Actually, I studied a reasonable amount for the CPA, but I felt it was warranted. I was so mad at myself for studying longer than 5 hours for the first two parts of the CIA haha.

Hahaha, you're hilarious, seriously. I'm probably going to think of you every time I use my highlighters and red pencils, which is quite often haha

Now that's some accountant dirty-talk right there. Is it hot in here or is it just me? You probably use your pencils without erasers, don't you, you naughty naughty girl? Or *gasp*, dare I say….PEN?

I'm officially done with the CPA exam! I'm thinking of taking a few months off and then diving into the CIA exam. Because, ya know, what else can I fill my extra time with? 😉

Ugh. Didn't study enough for Part 3 and failed a few weeks back. About to take Part 1 on Saturday. I think I've put in about 15 solid hours. Hopefully that will get me through it. Definitely at least read the Gleim book for Part 3!

Anyone from New York selling their CIA Study Material (Latest edition)? Mainly interested in Gleim. Let me know.

Can I use the old edition books for Part 1 and Part 2 exams?

Hey guys – passed Part 1 a few weeks back and it was very easy. I'm about to take Part 2 in another few weeks. Not looking forward to the Part 3 retake. First time was brutal. I totally agree with smp that it rivals the CPA exam…

Hello – i know it has been a while since the last post but how the scheduling on the CIA actually works? I read in the thread that you have to wait 90 days to retake the exam? Do they have blackout months like the CPA? What is the format of he exam, MCQ only? What is the passing score? More info would be greatly appreciated.
