I cannot help but think of the next step after passing the CPA exam. I have heard of CPAs also being financial advisors, but do they also manage the clients investments? I have a small obsession with the stock market, and do all my own investing, which has resulted in a 25% return on my portfolio for the year. Has anyone else considered having this type of practice in their future?

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

I've heard of people being both CPAs and CFAs if that's what you wanted to do. However, I'm not sure it's terribly common…

I am a CFP working in money management (and hopefully tomorrow I'll be done with the CPA exams). My boss is also a CFP/CPA. It's definitely not common and probably one of the differentiating aspects of our firm. You sound like my boss. He started a CPA firm with my dad in the 80s and did investments on the side. He began to take on some of his tax clients as investment clients and with the boom of the 90s, his investment company flourished. He turned over all of his tax work to my dad and focused on the investment company full time. We work very closely with my dad's firm since there are still many common clients, but we have also expanded our client base. I think our clients like our accounting/tax expertise when it comes to their investments and other financial issues.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 73, 86
    BEC - 89
