Does anyone know if the CIA adds value for external auditors?

Or perhaps the CIA is a stupid idea for an external auditor like me. I want more letters, but I want them to be the right ones too.

I know there are people working for “external audit firms” that come in and do internal audit work at companies/universities etc. Depending on your career path it could be worth it.

I am studying for the CIA and the material I have gone over in part 1 and part 2 is very much geared towards internal audit. I am studying for the audit exam of the CPA and even though the material is somewhat similar the internal audit role is somewhat different from external audit. I think you would benefit more from the CFE as an external auditor but I think its also about where you see your career going.
