Hello! I know this group is more CPA focused but I hope someone out there could help me out! Due to life and other things, I have postponed my CPA.

However, I currently work in internal audit and I am the only one in my department that does not have a certification and I would like to get something that to show that while I am not currently pursuing my CPA I’m not completely dropping the ball on advancing my career.

I would definitely like to get my CIA and was wondering if anyone had any tips? And/or suggestions on another cert I could get later on that would compliment it. I’ve heard CFE isn’t worth it, CMA is good if you want to go into management, and CISA combined with CPA and/or CIA is a deadly combo due to the focus on cyber these day. These are not my opinions just things I have heard.

    Chartered Market Technician (CMT) Exam?

Thank you in advance for your time and advice! 🙂

I am in internal audit and if you don't have a certification the audit committee will know about it. CFE is the easiest and will get people off your back. CIA requires two years work experience and is 3 exams. CISA would be valuable to have and of course CPA is the most respected. At my company people have up to 4 certs and it seems like CISA and CFE are the most common. However, all managers have a CPA.

Just get CFE to get everyone off your case then circle back to one of the other 3. I plan to take a year off and start CIA in 2018. From there who knows.

@Track55 Thank you for your feedback! A couple co workers took the CFE awhile back and I know it didn't take them long to complete. I feel like our industy is a bit like Pokemon, gotta get them all! (the certifications that is)

I just found out there is a CFE boot camp in Los Angeles in February. The CFE people teach you for 4 days, then you take the test. If you failed any of the 4 parts, you have 30 days to take them again at home.

My friend is going to do that. It's over $2k though. So now I'm kinda undecided on the CFE or CIA in a year. Probably CIA.

I had an audit earlier in the year and a few of us went out to eat. They had the rental car so we spent awhile driving, looking for them all. I don't have the app so I was just watching.

I'm in Internal Audit. Many certifications are overkill these days and bosses don't respect them. Definitely get your CIA and then go for the CISA. CISA definitely opens more doors since you'd be able to do IT audits and will definitely get you better pay. Good luck!
