Hi guys,
I’m a little confused about the total cost of taking the CFE. Their site is trying to sell me on a package for $1,750 – or something like that – but I’ve come to discover that the exam itself is just $350 to sit.
Earlier today, I took a chance and purchased some sort of PDF and “SIM” CFE package for… eight dollars on ebay. It supposedly comes with SIMs and 168 updated questions. We’ll see, I’m betting at least some are common sense.
Has anyone passed this exam with just a book, or something like that? For $350 plus, say, $150 for books, etc. I’d sit for it, but I’m not tossing $1,750 at the issue.
My work is primarily in forensic accounting and damages valuation work, and I presume that if there is a experience requirement that I’d be fine on that end.
If I get their “bible” would I be okay for the exam? Amazon seems to have used copies at $140 a piece: https://www.amazon.com/Fraud-Examiners-Manual-Association-Certified/dp/1889277118/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404187401&sr=8-1&keywords=certified+fraud+examiner
