So my boss asked me if there were any certification or credentialing programs that I was interested in taking – does anyone have any suggestions (I’ve been a CPA since January of this year)? It doesn’t necessarily have to be accounting-related.

    AUD: Attempt 1: 60; Attempt 2: 78
    BEC: Attempt 1: 75 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 80
    FAR: Attempt 1: 74; Attempt 2: 74; Attempt 3: 78
    REG: Attempt 1: 76 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 68; Attempt 3: 80

    Finished 11/01/2013!!!

@How many letters do you need – I don't completely disagree with your comments, and thanks for the feedback. But here are two examples of how that doesn't work all the time. If I wanted to get certified as a PMP, I can't do that because I don't have the work experience. The only way to get my PMP is by getting the work experience requirement out of the way. That will eventually happen, but not for a while. The CMA is another example. I don't necessarily qualify to sit for the exam (I'm in the middle of finding out if my work experience will qualify me to sit. I called the IMA and they're looking into it.) because I don't have the required work experience in managerial or cost accounting. Thus I would have to acquire the work experience prior to sitting for the exam.

    FAR: Attempt 1: 74; Attempt 2: 74; Attempt 3: 78

Grovitz: yes I understand all of that and for those certifications that require experience to sit you are limited, most certifications dont, however. The CMA, unless it's changed from last year, doesn't require you to have experience to sit, just to certify. I honestly didn't pay too much attention to that area because I wasn't concerned but I believe you have something like six years to obtain the experience after passing and that experience doesn't have to be cost accounting it can be anything in general finance/accounting. I think if you have the experience to qualify for the CPA you should be fine on the CMA.

Regardless…figuring out what you want to do should come before anything. Seems to me like you have no idea, and thats not necessarily a bad thing or an insult, it just seems that one minute you want to do something outside of finance accounting but then the next are considering the CMA. Figure it out and go from there:)

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?
