The American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals has an exam to prepare you for the most technical details of assets to get the shortest depreciable life possible for tax purposes. Has anyone taken the exam or know of any study materials on the subject?

Cost segregation study is used to breakdown useful lives of different components.

For example, I had a client spend a pretty large sum of money in the construction of a new building, we capitalized and were going to depreciate (almost everything) at 39 years. He had a very profitable year, so he had a cost segregation study done on the build to break down fixed assets further and accelerate some of the depreciation. Certain types of wiring's useful life was 15 years, etc etc. and it ended up taking about half the cost and bringing it down to 15 year or less useful lives and it should hold up in case of audit. Helped him out quite a bit.

On the certification its self, sorry, no help here!
