I have heard that the AICPA may come up with its own form of the CMA exam, which essentially would put the IMA out of business, you would think. Has anyone else heard anything like this? Does this hold any validity?
I heard of it. I doubt it will put the CMA out of business since the CMA is supposedly recognized internationally. Many professionals who already have the CMA , who are in charge of hiring in a lot of cases, would have to turn their back on their own certification to make the CMA lose its value. It's kind of like Harvard grads deciding that they won't hire anyone from Harvard, because Stanford is better. The CMA's will always be more biased towards hiring people with the same certification all other factors being equal. I also suspect that this new certification will take a few years to become widely known.

The teacher of my cost class said that its something she came across, but has little to no information on it. She mentioned something about pairing internationally, so the CGMA does fit that part of the description. It was unclear however if it was something in the works or something already established. I don't think I would pursue the CGMA, because it doesn't role off the tip of my tong well:) I have my CGMA license. I am a CPA is easier to say than I am a CGMA lol.

Is this something that could be useful in corporate tax? In the sense that business decisions are not made without the tax effects in mind. Figuring out the cost analysis, ect. with the tax effects?

I don't know too much about it. I'm pretty sure it is established. For CPAs, I don't believe there is any additional testing requirement. Just 3 years of management accounting experience. Until that changes, the CMA will still be around.

I would think the CFP would be a better pairing with a CPA for a tax accountant, unless you are doing the taxes for fortune 500 companies.
